"Evening, gentlemen. I say the boy. He headed that way (he points westward) toward the docks. Can't miss him, he's wearing a scarlet cloak." Dougl was about to speak up in contradiction, but Karl kicks him under the table. The diplomat from Rameshan stands. "Acht Vinaag!" he snarls in his native Southern tongue. "The missive... it's gone!" He frantically indicates the belt loop where an ornate scroll-case previously hung. The diplomat's two bodyguards began scanning the room frantically. Instinctively, Karl glances first at Stol, who returns an expression of genuine innocence. The quartermaster is more than a little amused by the Rameshanders' predicament. "Miserable slaveholders," he mumbles to himself. -- Dennis Brennan djb6@midway.uchicago.edu
