"There may be, though I do not know it in full, though I begin to suspect... "This ring was given to me by my wife, not so long ago. My wife, Caitlin, is an enchanter, though not of great powers. She said it would keep me safe, but she did not know what it would do. "In recent days, I was with an old friend, Scarlet Wyrmsbane, as she quested for the Codex, a book of myriad spells and much power, to stop it being gained by a great evil which has awakened in our world. To our horror, the book was found by that great evil, and as we confronted him, we thought all was lost. "Luck, of a sort, was with us. This being's archenemy, another evil power, found us and the Codex. Evil fought evil, while Scarlet and I sought to destroy the book which would bring the doom of our land. "Unfortunately, one of the powers who battled seized the book and cast a spell from it. A void appeared in the battleplace, dragging all towards it. Scarlet struck the book into the void, as those we sought to defeat escaped. I tried to close the void, but to no avail. Scarlet and I were sucked through it, and appeared in a snowfield somewhere. "Suddenly I was here, in this city, this ring warm in my hand. I entered this inn to find rest, which I have done. "Now I fear for Scarlet and my world. Two powers of evil now strive upon the land, and others may also come. Do you know how I can return to fight them?" Silverbreeze studies Felix's face. "I admit I have not named these powers of evil. That I will not do while they walk upon Oerth. However I may write their names." Silverbreeze takes a battered piece of parchment out of his backpack and a piece of charcoal. Carefully he writes. "Here are their names," he says. The paper reads: "Vecna, lich and archmage. Iuz, cambion and demigod." -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Merric Blackman merricb@mundil -------------------------------------------------------------------- "First things first -- but not necessarily in that order" -- The Doctor, "Doctor Who"
