Felix: "An interesting looking piece - is there a story behind it?"

[Silverbreeze tells a story about how he got here]

"Even though I do not recognize these names" says Felix "It is good that
you have wisdom enough to fear the power of the spoken word. Sadly, not
all of our fellow patrons share your insights - that is doubly dangerous
in a place where so much power is gathered! Even the written word has
power - with your permission?"

With that he takes the piece of parchment and carefully erases the names.

"Your desire is to return to the land that you call 'Oerth' to battle
these evil powers and to find news of your friends and family, is it?
And you think that this ring could be the agent that brought you here?
Well, the first thing to be done in a journey of this kind is to understand
*exactly* where it is you are going, and what means of travel are available
to you. I have some knowledge in these matters, and would gladly put it at
your disposal to fight powers such as those you describe. But first I think
I should know more about this ring, and then maybe more about your 'Oerth'."

Reaching into his backpack he rummages around for a while, and then pulls
out a staff. The staff is about 7' long, with a silver cats-paw at the base
and a silver cat-head at the other end, and bands of silver in between.
He places the staff upright in front of him, grasps it with both hands, and
closes his eyes. Slowly the eyes in the cat-head (which you now see to be a
pair of emeralds) begin to glow as the staff seems to be looking at the ring.
After a little while the glow fades, and Felix re-opens his eyes.
