As Karl leans over to tap at the ice, he gets a better glimpse of the
greenish humanoid:  It is a large, bipedal lizard, clad in leather, 
metal, bone and shell, and bearing a large trident.  The figure stands 
in an action pose, as though frozen suddenly in mid-lunge.  It makes
no acknowledgement to your words of thanks.

The ice fizzes in your drink.  You sip...** BLECH!!! **

That ice is frozen swamp water.  It contains rotting carboniferous plant
tissues, dead crustaceans and fish parts, and trapped bubbles of noxious
marsh-gas.  Unless your character Karl relishes the taste of these
substances, he is likely to spew his first mouthful...
