Maud takes a look at how Cromwell and Wolverine play with the ice block. He is reminded of the incident of the Wizard of the Ice Cave. But that was a long time ago. "If at that time someone would have kept freezing the ice around me, I would probably still be in that frozen pool. Hmmm...." Now the breakfast seems ready and is carried to the table. Maud forgets all other matters and concentrates on the important thing, eating. Munching sounds are heard from the window-side table for a long while. Odd, not much seems to have happened during this 'long while'. That must one of the mysteries of time here. The yearning desire to have a pet strikes Maud again, this time stronger than ever. Remembering the pet shop he saw on the other side of the street our hero decides to go there. Saying a short farewell to Cronn he heads for the inn door. He steps through, and SUDDENLY nothing happens. He is outside. Standing on the door steps Maud takes a look at the Plaza of Glittering Steel. There are indeed many shops around it, most of which are still closed. The Union Bank of Generica would be an interesting place if he had any money in it, but he doesn't so it isn't. Fortunately the owner of the pet shop seems to have opened his shop early. There aren't very many other people on the plaza yet. A (very) notable exception is some high government official, who is being carried in his official palankeen. Maud guesses, and guesses correctly, that this official is indeed Judge DEE himself, hurrying to his duties in Glorshanned Keep. The pet shop itself is an old fashioned building, built according to some oriental architecture. The eaves are upwards curved and on top of the door is a plain sign 'Pet Shop'. Through the window can be seen many pets: exotic spiders from the Great Forest, small fish glittering in all the rainbow colors from the Great Blue, majestetic falcons from the Mysty Mountains, as well as more ordinary parrots, kittens and dogs.
