From: andrea@cm.deakin.OZ.AU (Andrea Todkill) Newsgroups: alt.pub.dragons-inn Subject: Kadrys explains to Zia why he isn't exactly a sun-worshipper Message-ID: <3242@sol.deakin.OZ.AU> Date: 30 May 92 03:47:12 GMT Zia gives Kadrys a concerned look and writes out, "In antipathy, Pitted energy, The sun and I, Face each other..." She is evidently asking if this is true of Kadrys. Kadrys raises his eyebrows, and nods to Zia. "Symbolically speaking, yes. Like most symbols, it contains the truth while at the same time exaggerating it. You might say that the sun is no friend of mine. Once, for many years, the slightest touch of its beams would have destroyed me utterly. Now..." He pauses for the merest fraction of a second, his eyes flicking round the room as he struggles with his ingrained caution, "Now I am no longer so young. But still I feel small pleasure in its glare." At that moment, Lady Azzar unsheathes her sword and its rays pierce the comforting gloom of the Inn. As the light burns into his sensitive eyes, Kadrys flinches, turning his head aside and blinking. The knotted tension does not fade from his face until Azzar sheathes her blade once more. Kadrys gives Zia a slow, wry grin, reacting to the timeliness of the chance demonstration. "Still, I suspect the same antipathy could be found in many here, if not for the same reason. Why, come to think of it, I felt much the same when I still lived!" he grins. "How many thieves actually _enjoy_ working in broad daylight, I ask you?"
