And, some of the events do not make total sense to me, let alone someone else. With that disclaimer, I shall begin the tale as I remember it. "I remember that it was when I was a fairly young adventurer. I had just returned from my first sojourn outside my native realm of Greyhawk, and was investigating a rarely-used part of a forest that had been the site of recent troubles, along with a young half-elf skilled at both fighting and thievery. That in itself is strange, since 1) he was not my usual adventuring partner, 2) I somehow cannot remember his name, and 3) I KNOW that I never saw him again -- but I digress. We were brash enough to figure that we had a better chance at finding the cause of the trouble than the patrol set up expressly for that purpose. "After a period of time, we happened upon the house of a well-respected but nomadic member of the local community. When we saw that his door was unusually ajar, we rushed in. I was probably lucky to be young, in order to survive two nearly simultaneous shocks: the sight of the nomad's bloody body lying on the floor, and the sound of the patrol's horses coming closer. We fled, feeling that despite not being known as troublemakers, the nomad's death would be wrongly pinned on us. The patrol followed us deeper into the woods -- not even stopping at the house -- but fortunately never got close enough to identify us. This was mainly due to us finding a hidden passage leading underground -- undoubtedly caused by a combination of fate and the thief's skills. "Initially, just hiding by the entrance was enough. However, as the patrol began to search more diligently, we decided to follow the passage further for our own safety." Lancos pauses to take a drink, and to further refresh his memory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Sander 344lwkc@cmuvm.csv.cmich.edu
