Once outside the city, we met up again with the Death Cleric. As he dispelled my invisibility, he congratulated us on our success, and said that as a further reward, we'd be credited with avenging the death of the nomad. He then left, implying that we'd meet again, although I am happy that that statement has not come true yet. "And so, we returned to the community, and my fame grew a bit around the area. Although on the outside I kept a cheerful attitude about it, my friends could see that I held a deep regret. I told them the true story, and added that I regretted being used -- and at that time that was how I viewed the ordeal. They comforted me, and said that as far as that was concerned, I had nothing to worry about. "It was not until after a further examination that I saw how right they were; it's amazing how much one can not know about oneself. I soon figured out that my main regret is putting myself first in that situation -- as if _I_ were more important than any other. I realized that I had no idea if the nomad was dead when we found him or merely unconscious, though by the time the patrol had given up their search and returned to his house, he most assuredly was. Also, I am sure that had I given time to think about it, I could have resolved the Drow situation without killing a man that I had never met, and had no real grudge against. That is why I would never use your name against you, Kadrys. I no longer think of myself first, and will always regret the time I did." Lancos then finishes his drink and orders another one. After placing the medallion intentionally at the bottom of his backpack, he turns to Zia and Kadrys again, to see their reactions to the story. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Sander 344lwkc@cmuvm.csv.cmich.edu "I only regret my mistakes twice -- once when they occur, and every other time that I think of them"
