Bakr left the inn, walked to the East, looking around cautiously for bears and giants, and reached Miggung's Magic Shop. He hadn't had enough money yet to buy any magic items, but he knew the shop. Many times he had rummaged through it with shining eyes. His father had a shop like this in the city of Meknesh, and he himself had often helped out in the shop and delivered goods when he was a small boy. Miggung greeted him when he entered. "Hello Bakr! You want to look at my stock again?" "No, I'll actually buy something. Do you have potions which help against exhaustion?" "Sure. How many do you want? One? That'll be forty-nine gold and nine silver. Plus nine coppers for the bottle, but you'll get that back when you return it." The fat mage haggled him down to thirty-eight, then he paid and got a small flask with an orange-brown liquid. He decided to use it when he actually encountered the bear. After all one wouldn't want to waste the money. "How did you manage to be spared by the mob?" he asked. Miggung smiled broadly. "I raised a magic wall of fire around the shop. They thought it had been burned down by others already." "Nice trick. Bye Miggung." - "Bye Bakr." Then he searched the city for the bear. Some citizens had seen it, but when he reached the East gate, which was guarded now, the guards and every inhabitant of nearby houses didn't know of any stray bear. One of the guards scolded him for bringing wild beasts into the city. "Surely you rode it in here, like that moose you brought yesterday. I turned a blind eye on you up to now but if that bear does any harm to citizens of Generica, you'll be held responsible! Surely you took advantage of the short moment when we had to take care of the mob! If I had been at the gate, you wouldn't have entered with this bear!" The other guard gaped. "Take care of the mob?? But all we did was run away! Besides, a bear is not as unusual as all the monsters people take in here..." "Shut up, Langmuir! You're damaging the reputation of the City Guard! And you, Rameshander, go fetch that bear!" "I'm not from Rameshan but from Eschar. Rameshanders have another sort of scarf." "Anyway, FETCH THAT BEAR!" Bakr turned to the West and continued the search. Bakr ibn Ja'far ibn Musa al Mekneshi, apprentice mage. -------------
