Kron marvels at the recuperative properties of the Lizard King. Of course, Colin's potion was better than a sharp stick in the eye, too... Kron wishes that Natter could be placed in the 'healthy' category, too. Sadly, Natter has muttered his last. Kron bends down and closes his eyes. He picks him up and places his body in the now-sloppy pile of barrels, covering him with a scrap of canvas. "I'll come back and see you get a decent burial," he says. Kron mumbles a brief prayer to the Gods before leaving the alleyway. Companions in tow, Kron makes his way through the narrow back streets of Generica's poorer quarters toward the inn called the Scrappy Ram. Kron explains as he goes: "I know of this Inn. The proprietor, a chap named Verdigren, was an adventurer once upon a time. He was a skilled and deadly warrior, but he was impossibly short for a human. Consequently, Verdigren became fierce and savage in temperment to compensate for his small stature. This led some companions to give him his nickname -- the scrappy ram. When he retired, he named his tavern with the same moniker. "I must warn you -- sedentary life has not made Verdigren any more peaceful. He is still as fierce as ever, and inclined to fight at the slightest provocation. He has been in trouble with the law many times. However, to my knowledge, he is no criminal, and his establishment owes nothing to any power or group in the Low City. "Still -- he is unlikely to cooperate with us. He knows me from several arrests I made on his premises, and there is no love lost between us. He is likely to lose his temper if we are pushy, and when Verdigren blows his top, somebody gets hurt. He has a lot of friends -- usually down-and-out adventurers -- who might step in to assist him. We must take care. "Our mission: find the identity of the mute murderer who Natter spotted at the scene of the crime. He placed one of the two killers at this tavern several times in the past; if he is a regular, Verdigren may know something of him. "So, how can we deal with the occupants of the Scrappy Ram without bringing about more needless bloodshed?" -- Andrew Solberg |"Moving faster than a speeding bullet isn't andsol@owlnet.rice.edu | much use if you and it are headed straight Phone:713-529-8627 | for each other."
