Shadow Mages were not as powerful without shadows. He jumped off the wagon and entered the woods... 'Ah, much better' he thought to himself. The others in the group saw Luthor enter the woods and then his form melted away as if it was only an illusion, now dispelled. They paused only a moment to decide what to do and then acted. In the woods, Luthor made his way as quietly as possible through the trees. It was slow going, but the others in the group could handle the more direct and immediate combat. His job would be to cut off escape...and pick off all of the enemy that he could. After going about 100 yards through the forest, Luthor came upon two men on horses. They both had their bows out and arrows aimed toward the road. "I can't get a clear shot," said one as he lowered his bow slightly. "Me neither...the damned horse is in the way," said the other. "THERE...on the left..." said the first as he re-aimed his bow. "I see him." The other followed suit. Luthor decided to act. He brought out his own bow and took an arrow from his quarrel. As the arrow was pulled back, the bow began to hum slightly. Luthor let the arrow fly and it struck one of the men squarely in the arm, pinning it to the man's chest as it passed through. "AAAARGH!" he screamed as he fell off his horse. Unfortunately for him, he landed on the arrow driving it deeper into his chest. The other amn did not hesitate. He quickly found Luthor who was given away by the humming of the bow. The man pulled his own arrow into place. "YOUR BOW COULD BREAK," shouted Luthor envoking his powers over probability. Just before the bandit could release the arrow, the bowstring broke. Luthor, knowing that he could not defeat the man in melee combat, decided to run for it, hoping that he could outrun the remaining man. He dashed through the dense underbrush, all the time hearing the bandit behind him. He was almost back to the place where he entered the woods when something crashed into him. The bandit had done a flying tackle and the two wrestled. The bandit was quite adept at wrestling Luthor soon found as he was pinned to the ground, face up. The bandit on top snarled at him. "I'm going to gut you my friend. You'll find out that I'm not very good at killing...it usually takes my prey a few hours to die, and believe me, it won't be pleasant," he growled. Luthor looked around for anything that he could use to attack this man and his eyes fell upon a large branch. "THAT BRANCH COULD BREAK" Luthor shouted, once again weaving the forces of randomness. "Nice try little elf. I..." **CRACK** **THUD** The branch broke off and hit the bandit, and unfortunately Luthor, over the head. They both fell silent and unconscious on the forest floor.
