He could see and hear what happened around him as well as around the animal, but he couldn't move. Everything was quiet now in his closer vicinity - he had heard some fighting and breaking branches in the wood when he was still on horseback, but that had stopped soon (Luthor and the two bowmen) - so he sometimes closed his eyes for a while. It was then when he heard Luthor's voice: "Stay put my friend, I must make sure that Brycur is alright." He stayed put. The brigand's horse he controlled reached the street now. It looked around and saw the fighting place lying twenty paces to the left. It got there and found the ground littered with dead bandits. Nobody else was there so it examined the bodies more closely. One of them was Brycur, but he was not at all dead. Bakr stood up. Luthor just came over to him. "Where are the others? I only saw Brycur lying on the ground." Bakr ibn Ja'far ibn Musa al Mekneshi, apprentice mage. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Luthor walked back down the road toward Bakr, he saw the apprentice mage get up. He asked where the others were. "I saw them go into the woods. I think that they were chasing the rest of the bandits. "Do me a fovor, watch over Brycur while I get the wagon. I think he hurt his ribs again," Luthor said starting to walk down the road. When Luthor met up with Bakr and Brycur at the scene of the battle, they were talking and having some water. "Well, don't just sit there, lets find out what these bandits were REALLY after," said Luthor as he knelt near the now-decapitated body of the leader of the bandits. After a short search, he found a blood stained piece of paper. Luthor unfolded it carefully. The blood had begun to clot making the folds of the paper stick together. The handwriting was neat. Obviously that of someone who writes often, like a sage or magician. "Traenu, For reasons that you need not know, I need you to kill a man named Brycur. I will reward you 500 pieces of gold, but be warned, Brycur is a descent warrior and he is travelling with a group of people from the Dragons Inn! To help you, I have managed to obtain a wand of magic and have hired a not-too-scrupulous mage to use it. Derek the Black." "Looks like someone is out to get you Brycur," said Luthor handing the note to Brycur. Love and Peace and Ambushes, -The Dreamer-
