He finds nothing of particular interest, each bandit is carrying a long sword and a long bow and is wearing studded leather armor, nothing of any use to Brycur (Admin: Yes, I CAN wear armor but I choose not to - it's that character preference thing). He collects what money they had, about 600 gold pieces, and debates about wether he should keep it for himself or if he should divide it up amongst the party. He quickly decides that he would be better of splitting it, hoping that any future (and hopefully larger ;-)) treasure will also be split equally. After having decided that he sits down in the clearing and begins to examine the note which he found on the leader's body. 'Derek the Black, where have I heard that name before?' Brycur strains to remember where he knows that name from. After only a few seconds he recalls his run with Derek the Black (or as Brycur prefers, Derek the Yellow). It was about four years ago. Brycur and his brother John had just arrived in Specifica (pick one - I don't care which!) and were hoping to find some temporary employment so they could enlarge their funds a bit. Well, they got work under Derek the Black, loading and unloading furs onto ships that journey to and from Specifica. Derek had a habit of treating his help like slaves, often even worse than that. One day one of the other workers on the dock accidently tripped and lost two furs in the river (or Ocean - depending on which Specifica). Derek was so furious that he ties the man to a pole and began to whip him brutally. It became obvious that Derek was going to whip the man to death, and that no one had any intention of stopping him. Brycur and John took matters into their own hands. They grab Derek's arms and through him into the river (ocean). Derek swore that he would get revenge on Brycur and John for humiliating him. About six monthes ago Derek appeared in Generica, Brycur had not seen him in two and a half years and had all but forgotten about him. Derek attempted to set up a business in the Low City Bazaar, coincidentally, it was the same type of business that Brycur ran. Derek soon realized that he wasn't going to put Brycur out of business in any legitimate way so he resorted to other methods . . . Sabotage. Thus the rotten oranges which Captain received on his journey. But Brycur had no proof that Derek was responsible for the many 'unfortunate' coincidences that kept occurring to Brycur's business. Brycur's business was nearly going under when he was finally able to prove that Derek was responsible. Brycur was walking through Low City on his way home one night and he decided to check his warehouse. When he approached the front door he noticed that it was slightly ajar, and there was a loud ruccus coming from inside the warehouse. Brycur was able to sneak inside and he saw Derek inside with some of his cronies, destroying Brycur's stock. Brycur nearly lost his temper, drew his sword, and ran out into the group to kill them all, but he had a better idea. He snuck around in the dark and subdued the men one-by-one, some by dropping crates on their heads, others by beating the sh*t out of them. Eventually Derek was left alone. Brycur walked out into the open, right in front of Derek, with his sword drawn and ready at his side. Derek looked horrified, he new he had no chance against Brycur without his goons there to defend him. He began to wimper and cry and beg Brycur to forgive him. Brycur was not swayed by Derek's sudden change of heart, however. He knocked Derek unconscious with the butt of his sword. Brycur then proceeded to turn Derek over to the City Guard (Watch - what exactly is the name?), amidst many vocal curses, and certainly many more silent ones. So Derek attempted to extract final revenge against Brycur by sending him to an early grave. But he had once again failed. If Derek had one shred of common sense he would be long gone from Generica when Brycur returned with his powerful and diverse (and now vengeful) new friends. -Brycur the Merchant ************************************************************************* * "I am the Lizard King, * Peter Harper * * I can do anything! * Worcester Polytechnic Institute * * - James Douglas Morrison * Worcester, MA 01609 * * Poet * patchman@wpi.wpi.edu * * (1943-1971) * patchman@encore.wpi.edu * *************************************************************************
