Newsgroups: alt.pub.dragons-inn From: kring@efes.physik.uni-kl.de (Thomas Kettenring) Subject: [L] Bakr: Waiting for Lathan, Sal, and Murell Message-ID: <1992Jul19.192016.24801@rhrk.uni-kl.de> Date: Sun, 19 Jul 1992 19:20:16 GMT ADMIN: I didn't see any [L] postings after J.M. Craig's "Re: Lathan and Sal Speed Through the Woods", from the 17th. Were there any? I don't know what to do now until they are back, so I let Bakr dream a bit. Persons mentioned apart from the Luthor Questors: 'Raelf, Felchek (NPC), Maleiu, Shakura Delena, Felix Luthor and Brycur just finished searching the bodies. Bakr leant at the wagon dreaming, and Brycur thought, "Seems this mage is a bit on the lazy side..." The Scharidian mage (people from Eschar are called Scharidrim) thought about the peculiar ways of Providence. He had been wandering along with his companions on his home world Midgard, in the land of Chryseia, and suddenly he had been displaced to another world, this world. He had walked a few steps, then he had noticed that he was not on the road but on a clearing, with a geometrical figure on the ground, and that his companions were missing. He had jumped around in excitement, shouting their names. He had finally found a road, and when, after following it for a while, he had met a peasant whose language he didn't understand, it had dawned on him that he wasn't in Chryseia anymore. And much later, in Generica, he had met someone not only from Midgard, but from Meknesh, Bakr's native place, and was somehow related to his teacher, Machbar the Incredible. Arouk was his name, and he was an alchemist by profession. He had left Meknesh eight years ago because he had accidentally blown up a house containing a famous adventurer's family. He had had to flee the revenge, so he had changed worlds with his wife and settled in Generica, where Bakr had recognized him. He had to promise he wouldn't tell anyone Arouk's real name, as he was known as "Felchek of the Foul Odors" around here. And on Bakr's last day in the Dragons Inn, a stranger ['Raelf] had asked where he could find an alchemist and an astrologer. Bakr had been able to tell him, and the reminicences of the evening when he were a guest in Felchek's house had inspired him to rise to unexpected heights of eloquence. And he had been far too talkative... Felchek was posing as a Rameshander, and Bakr had told the stranger that he was related to his master. He hoped that nobody had noticed the discrepancy. But no... one would have to know Felchek as well as Bakr's origin to get suspicious... The mage decided not to spread his history too wide in Generica. He couldn't remember whom he had told already that he was from Midgard: Maleiu, the Luthor Questors, but who else? Felix and Shakura had been at the table then... If that adventurer would come to this world, and to Generica, he would surely go to Dragons Inn... and ask for an alchemist and an astrologer. But then he'd find Felchek anyway, and it wasn't Bakr's fault... And that he would come was too unlikely in any case... or was it? Hey! That stranger had asked exactly what the revenging adventurer would have asked... He was teared out of his thoughts by someone speaking nearby. (ADMIN: Some time or other this *will* happen.)
