Newsgroups: alt.pub.dragons-inn From: aaron@space.ualberta.ca (Aaron Humphrey) Subject: [KQ] Maleiu: [ScrRam->DrInn] Back To The Inn Message-ID: <1992Jul29.211941.20136@kakwa.ucs.ualberta.ca> Date: Wed, 29 Jul 1992 21:19:41 GMT Eventually they all stood outside the Scrappy Ram--Maleiu, Kron, Colin, Thk (being held up by Maleiu and Colin), Fenris, HighFlyer, and Marcel Delacroix. The eastern sky was turning grey with pre-dawn light, and Kron suddenly let out a mighty yawn. "Not as young as I used to be," he muttered. "Let's move out," he said in a louder voice. Things seemed to have calmed down from the riot(was it only that night? it seemed like weeks ago). The few people they saw in Low City didn't stay to watch them for very long. They made their way out to the Arcade of Unforgotten Heroes and then north along that thoroughfare to the Plaza of Glittering Steel. They all started to breathe easier. They stood on the warm metal of the Plaza for a few minutes before going in, as Kron said, "We should get an early start tomorrow. The place we want to go is less busy in the daytime, and we want as much of that time as we can. So get as much rest as you need, but we'll see you back down here and ready to go before noon." Fenris and HighFlyer muttered to each other, "You gonna tell him?" "You tell him." "No, you." "One, two, three." "Ha-ha, scissors cuts paper." "Damn." Fenris turned to Kron and said, "Actually, we really can't stay. We have things to attend to other places, that can't wait any longer. We may see you tomorrow morning, but we'll be gone after that. But we would like to wish you luck in your quest--all of you." Kron nodded. "Thanks, guys, same to you." Maleiu went up to Fenris and shook his hand. "It's been good fighting beside you. Perhaps again someday, eh? Who knows where the Wind will blow you." They entered the Inn and started going up to their rooms. Marcel said to Maleiu in halting Ydoinais, "We stay here? Money good?" Maleiu shrugged. "Littlefair is fairly good about those who stay here. Or one of the other guests will help out. He's seen many different kinds of money before." Marcel nodded. "Tomorrow, up early. Maybe late night for you, but not for me. 'Twasn't this late when I left my before-place. If you are too up early, I would like learning other-tongues. I learn quick-like." Maleiu said, "I don't normally require much sleep. I will be up early, you can trust that." Maleiu helped translate Marcel's speech for Littlefair, who saw no reason why he couldn't accept some of Marcel's money for a room. It was still gold, wasn't it? [ADMIN: Wasn't it?] "Good night, Marcel Delacroix," Maleiu said as they parted to go to their separate rooms. Marcel waved goodnight to Maleiu before going into his room to lie down and think over this world he'd entered... Maleiu went to his room and lay down on the pallet he'd made on the floor. The beds here were much too soft, he thought. He closed his eyes and was asleep within seconds. ADMIN: There we are, back at the Inn. I hope you don't mind my taking a few liberties with Kron, Andrew...but he seemed the logical one to do the talking. Similarly, Rick, I hope Marcel hasn't done anything too strange in this post, and he does have gold money, doesn't he? 'Raelf? You probably share a language or two with Marcel...maybe you can encounter him in the Inn tomorrow morning(a day or so ago, [DQ] time...)and have a chat...and I seem to recall Michael saying you wanted a look at Thk's hand... As for the [inv] thread...well, by our timeline, we're still a day or so short of that. Of course, you know the way time works in Generica, and especially at the Inn(how long was Karl in Vascondy? How much time has passed in the Inn?), but I think our thread will run independently of the invasion for a while. As long as it doesn't interfere with our part of town after we leave the Inn, we probably won't notice it... -- ---Alfvaen(a.k.a. Aaron V.
