"Must be sunrise, wherever we are," Ezrin observed. Finally, the man that Ezrin had rescued began to stir. "Urny zr, Wrfbyvgu, urny zr!" The tongue was unfamiliar to Ezrin. It didn't sound like any of the languages of the Known Lands. With obvious pain, the stranger continued to call out, leaving Ezrin wishing he could understand or at least aid the poor fellow. "Ezrin, I...I've never heard that language before. I wonder if we might have ended up in another world. There's no telling what could have happened after my spell was disrupted." Listening to these words from The Wyeriun sent a chill down Ezrin's spine. Was it true? Could they indeed be in some other world or plane. 'My soul for a warm, dry bed!' "Y...your turn, Ezrin." Noticeably fatigued, the Wyeriun handed off care of the stranger to Ezrin. How long could they continue this? At least the sharks hadn't bothered them yet, but soon, very soon, neither of them would have the energy to continue this effort. "That light on the Chart, and the ones we saw in that other plane..." The Wyeriun took a few slow deep breaths before continuing. "...perhaps the residual effect from Gate spells. Astral travelers have noted them, although never so large or numerous. But the energy to create or sustain them...would be enormous! I guess we'll never know." Slowly sinking in, the finality of The Wyeriun's words flowed in waves of despair through Ezrin. *You're dead anyways* Combating these feelings of hopelessness was becoming more difficult by the minute. 'Relax, get a grip on yourself.' "Ur inavfurq!" shouted the stranger, startling Ezrin. "Wyeriun, I think something's wrong." Ezrin paused, and then became very nervous when The Wyeriun failed to respond. "Wyeriun, where are you!" The seconds went by and Ezrin began to fear the worst. The fatigue had finally set in, and the Wyeriun had gone under. "You stay here!," Ezrin pointed and let go of the stranger, hoping he would understand. With a few quick breaths, Ezrin dove in to find the marestasi. -- / bdavis@romulus.cray.com Cray Research Inc.
