ON THE WAY TO THE WASTER'S HIDEOUT:

  Colin trudged along with the rest of the Questors.  His eyes shifted con-
stantly, on the lookout for ambuscades -- but he didn't think there would be
any, at least not of a physical nature.

  He had felt the brush of mind control before.  Then, he had been equal to the
task of resistance.  The ranger knew what had transpired at Nestor's was another
example of that -- but this time, he had not been equal.  It had slipped in so
smoothly, so subtly, that it was only now that he could recognize it for what
it was.  He and the others had been manipulated with ease.  It was not a good
omen.

  Though the half-elf had walked upon many planes, faced horrors beyond des-
cription, rebuked the gods themselves, and lived, he was fearful.  This last
was not unusual in and of itself.  Only the ignorant and fools never knew fear,
and Colin was not either.  But this time the quality of that fear was changed,
and that was a source of worry.  It was not something he could describe in any
concrete terms, it just *was*.

  Touching his holy symbol, he muttered a brief prayer to Meilikki, Goddess of
the Forests, and his patron.  The action brought some small comfort.  He hoped
that 'Raelf and perhps some others who were more knowledgeable of this sort
of thing would return soon.  He was primarily a warrior, who interacted on the
physical plane, not the psychic.  All he required was a target.

  Well, for good or ill, he suspected he would soon get one.  The night had 
that feeling to it, one of things hidden to be revealed, revelations, and
journeys ending.

  They seemed to be approaching something...
