'How will I find him?' Ezrin thought, plunging deeper into the sea. Even if he had his sight, it would be a difficult task to recover someone who was drowning. *Face It, The Wyeriun is Lost* 'No!' He wasn't going to give in to those pessimistic feelings. 'I will find him!' Then an arm wrapped around his waist, and pulled Ezrin up towards the surface. 'Is this The Wyeriun? No...too strong...it must be the stranger.' After reaching the surface, Ezrin took several deep breaths. "Are you here Wyeriun?" Ezrin's words went unanswered. Finally, the other man spoke. "Lbh'er sevraq, guvf Wyeriun, vfa'g urer nalzber. Ur inavfurq." "You said Wyeriun...Wyeriun what! You've got to tell me," pleaded Ezrin. 'There has to be some way to communicate with this foreigner.' "Ezrin," he said and pointed to himself. "Kalendraf," replied the wounded man. 'At last...some basic communication with this fellow.' "Pleased to meet you, Kalendraf." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time: 9 am Place: Tower of Marlin in the supervisor's office Scene: Lilifis Kloote has just summoned The Wyeriun. The Seaguards in Marlin Tower watched in surprise, as the wet and nearly-naked Wyeriun floundered on the floor. "Quick, a towel and a blanket," Ruk Lortus barked at one of the staring guards. He bent down to help The Wyeriun. "Wh...wh...where am I? I hear voices...one I recognize...Is that you Ruk?" The Wyeriun was having difficulty breathing, and his voice was very weak. "Yes, it's me, old friend. You're safe now. This fine gentleman has summoned you to the Tower of Marlin." Ruk motioned toward Lifilis Kloote silently standing in the corner of the room. The guard returned and proceeded to dry The Wyeriun with a towel and wrap him in a blanket. With Ruk's help the marestasi managed to drink some badly needed fresh water. After several minutes, the Wyeriun had regained some of his strength, and he managed to speak again. "Ezrin, myself and third man, probably a foreigner have been floating in the sea for hours. Are you able to summon Ezrin or this other man?," he asked while staring blankly at the floor. "I require a picture to perform such a task. Yours was available, and Ezrin's was not." Lifilis replied in a matter-of-fact tone. He would have been more courteous had The Wyeriun bothered to at least look at him when he asked the question. "I owe you my life...," The Wyeriun started and turned to look towards corner where Kloote was standing. "And for that I am most grateful." "As are all the Seaguard," injected Ruk. "You will be rewarded highly for this wondrous feat. It's..." "Wondrous indeed, and when time permits, we shall hold a feast in your honor." interrupted The Wyeriun. "But right now there are still two men out there who need our help. Ruk, what is the status of the disturbance." "It disappeared a few hours ago. Just before sunrise." "Send every available ship to that location. I think that Ezrin and I were most likely near there. Have them look for two men floating in the water. They probably don't have much time left." The Wyeriun had regained enough energy to stand up. "Also, have one of your men escort me back to my house. I would walk there on my own...but I've been blinded." The entire room fell silent after the announcement. "Don't worry about me; the lives of those two men are far more important than my sight. Besides, I've got remedies for it back at my house," said The Wyeriun. "Now let's go; there's not a moment to spare!" A guard took his arm, and they hurried off down the steps. ADMIN: Sorry about the delay between postings. Been mighty busy over the past few weeks. Also my apologies to Lilifis Kloote for keeping him on hold here in the Tower for so long. -- / bdavis@romulus.cray.com Cray Research Inc.
