Newsgroups: alt.pub.dragons-inn From: dnichols@engr.latech.edu (Dennis Nichols) Subject: [G] Reaction after the Raid Message-ID: Date: Wed, 7 Oct 1992 17:04:25 GMT Traveler watches the ongoing battle warily as Roger, the Wanderer, and Kordane's horse wipe out the remaining lizardmen. He watches in disgust as Thorr-Kan brings one of the lizardmen in alive. He realizes this was necessary in order to establish who has ordered this raid. He decides all is clear and releases the bolt from the cross bow and replaces it. He walks over to the lizardman in front of him and removes the knife from the lizardman's throat. He cleans the already drying blood from the knife and puts it in it's sheath. He mutters "... !@#$% the !@#$% day I was !@#$% born ... as he examines his fallen prey. He announces to everyone, " This one has a tattoo that everyone should see. " He called it a tattoo, but in reality it is more like a brand. " It's the symbol of chaos. " He then make a quick check of the other lizardmen and finds nothing special on them. " None of these have the tattoo, He must have been the ring leader. " He turns from the crowd that has gathered around the fallen lizardman and picks up Glysten and carries him to a shaded spot. Out loud he say's " Glysten's wound doesn't seem to be all that bad. It must have been a quick acting poison to have affected him that quickly. We are lucky in that we were a group of fighters and not a group of businessmen. If we were we would all be dead. " After a few moments of silent cursing his birth he announces, " I suggest we post guards and find someone who is skilled in the healing arts. " He walks over to his horse and walk him to a shaded area and take his saddle off the horse and lets him walk around unbridled. " Where the hell did Galland go. She, or whatever it is, vanished when all the action started. I for one am wary of anyone who runs from a fight. " Looking around at the crowd at the crowd he shakes his head in disgust. " Good work Roger you did well with your part. I guess you all did well. " The later he said with a bit of disgust. " I guess it is better that Thorr-Kan showed up better late than never. " He begins to lay out things for camp in an area shaded by trees. After he lays his things out and places his saddle next to his bed roll he announces, " I have a call from nature I must answer, " and walks off into the woods. After a few minutes he returns and sits on his bedroll. The Traveller pulls the knife he killed the Lizardman with and begins to clean it and sharpen it. He does this then replaces it in its scabbard. This done he reaches in the saddle bag, no one had noticed it until it seemed to appear in his hands, and takes out the items he bought from the weapons smith in town. He sets five pointed stars about the size of a mans hand down on the blanket. The stars shine the shine of newly wrought metal. He meticulously cleans each star and sharpens each point. He then pulls the jar of brown paste from his belt and dips each point of four of the stars in the paste. The metal of each star immediately turn a dark grey. He rubs the paste on the stars until it dries. He places the four stars in pouches designed for them in the sleeve of his shirt on each forearm. This done he says, " I'll take the first watch. We stay here until Glysten gets better. " He then walks off to find a good spot to stand watch and to scout around a little. The trail they were on is surrounded by trees on both sides. They had just entered a clearing when they were attacked. Most unusual since it would have been beter to attack at the other side of the clearing, or on the trail, thus keeping everyone from being able to enter into the fray. If the lizardmen had done we probably would not have had the chance to retaliate.
