His stomach roiled and churned, but he fought down his queasiness. He was a warrior of the Aradneh. He would not succumb to the weakness of his body. The slime churned further and shapes started to emerge. One of them few into the air and menaced Captain. But Marcel came to his aid, and there were more opponents clambering up the side of the pool. One of them was a huge humanoid figure that looked familiar. It was twelve feet tall, and thickly built--and its head was that of an elephant. A Loxorian! Maleiu had spent some time in Loxor on the Dark Continent, during his travels. There he had made some good friends, and some terrible enemies. In Loxor, the primary art form was battle, and the Loxorians were very good at it. Maleiu had barely emerged alive from the one serious fight he had had there, and that only because of the sacrifice of his Loxorian friend Ka'aroom. But his familiarity with Loxorian combat style made him the logical opponent for this one. He made the Loxorian sign of challenge, and the Loxorian trumpeted its reply. "What puny warrior are you, that makes the challenge of a Loxorian? Know, tiny one, that you face A'aa, mighty warrior of Loxor!" A'aa brandished his greatsword at his foe. Maleiu knew fear. A'aa was a legendary warrior of Loxor. Tales were told of him to all warriors, and his name was spoken with awe. He had disappeared many years ago, after leaving the land of Loxor and sailing north. Well, now it was clear what had happened to him. But now Maleiu knew he had less hope of victory than he had before. But he was a warrior. He hefted his spear and said, "Greetings, A'aa. Your name is still spoken far and wide. I am Maleiu, a warrior of Nariawah, on the Savannah. I hold no quarrel with you, but if we must fight, so be it."
