[Conversation between Ixy and Runecaster detailing an overview of advanced
rune magic deleted, which doesn't matter as Indigo never really heard it, his
attention being focused on a mind probe of the drow.]

The merman looked startled, as if she had caught him in some sort of illicit
behaviour. He quickly finished severing the psi-connection he had established
between them, and spoke:

"Madam, you wound me. True, I am a merman, but so are all my family. I do
not pretend to be a representative of them, but only of myself," Indigo smiled,
"I am Indigo, son of Marcus, warrior of both muscle and mind, and protector
of all who call the oceans of Nexus their home. Please call me Indigo, the
name I was given at my naming. This 'Sir Merman' stuff is not my style."

"And now that you mention it, I do remember one of my tutors mentioning that
circle runes were more stable, as a result of the magical geometry, yet had
no defined focus, a fact I should have remembered. I never did like my
magic lessons, but was more into lessons of the mind."

"Speaking of lessons of the mind, I would like to help you with yours. As
you have repaired my runes, I would like to repair your mind. However, such
a task would take lesser masters years, and would probably take be a year or
two as well. However, we are in the Dragon's Inn, where the time stream has
been known to stray. I'm sure that if you agreed, the process should take no
more than an hour or two."

He seemed confident in his statement. And he was. After all, he, like her,
had been marked from birth as 'special,' with a natural talent for the powers
he wielded. His last probe of her mind had shown him much, especially that
she was not as psionically powered as he first thought. Of course, she
was powerful, but not nearly as powerful as Indigo. It was the sharp edges
of her shattered mind that made her seem, at first, formidable.

But the pieces were there. They could be fixed.

"And please, do not read any dishonor into this request. Repairing your mind
would be a challenge to me, one I readily accept. You would be healed, at
last, for although you have tried many remedies in the past, you have never
encountered a true master of the mind such as the son of Marcus. Seeing you
healed and ending your torment would be my sole reward, and would be more
that enough."

Indigo blanched. He had only intended to be courteous and assuage her fears,
but he was afraid that he had revealed too much of her history, too much of
what he was not supposed to know.

Hopefully, no one would realize his mistake.
