Shortly, Queriche and Delmara, both looking somewhat worn out, entered the office. "So, what's the news? You find the girl? Where's Alfvaen? Where's the kid? And where's that imp I sent you?" Queriche held up a hand to forestall Moriarty's barrage of questions. "We found the girl, in the Demon Spider's lair. Alfvaen made some kind of deal for her that involved us leaving. Little Rat snuck back in, and there was some kind of explosion after we'd gone a ways down the corridor. Batobo disappeared shortly after leading us out of the Gaps. That's all we know." Moriarty considered that. "Hmmm. No sign of Alfvaen yet, or the girl?" Queriche shook his head. "If he was in that explosion, then they may both be dead, and Little Rat too, unless they found another exit, or have pretty good fire resistance." Moriarty nodded. "Hope not. Damn. I'd miss the kid." He meant Alfvaen, not considering that the half-elf was probably older than he was... "Hope your girl turns up, Miss Delmara. If not--well, I guess we won't be charging you." Delmara smiled wanly. "Something happened to her, but I'm not sure what. I would have felt it if she were dead, probably, but I don't quite think she's alive either." Moriarty's face brightened. "Hey! We got a big contract, from some Merchant's Hill bigwig named Verden. He wants us to make sure that Amaan's visit to Generica doesn't cause any repercussions with trade to Rameshan. It might conflict with our Mage Guild contract a bit, but I think we can work it both ways. To that end, I've hired a guy who calls himself Choir of Vidmar. He's got some nifty sound-based powers, even if he seems a little young... He's downstairs in the storeroom, probably sleeping by now. In the morning we'll have to take him down to the Mage Guild and get him licensed, but I don't think that'll be much of a problem, if we talk to the higher-ups. Of course, if Alfvaen comes back, then--the more the merrier. With this new contract, we can sure afford it. Verden stands to lose a lot if this Rameshan trouble comes up, and even a small piece of that will still be a tidy sum for us. I should go talk to him tomorrow too." Then he yawned. "But now, it's pretty much time for bed. It's been a long night." Just then, there were more footsteps on the stairs... -- ---Alfvaen(Canadian SF Quasi-Activist) "Does it ever seem like the brain disorders you have just aren't enough to keep you amused anymore?" --Dr. Strychnine Current Album-Prince & The Revolution:Around The World In A Day Current Read--Tom Clancy:The Sum of All Fears
