Underwater between the sinking and burning _Cote_D'Azur_ and the beleagered
_Arcas_, Artifice noted the presence of a number of hysterically thrashing
human forms. He coldly speculated as to the effect of shark attacks on
the desperate swimmers. One of these forms, that of Shade, did catch his
attention for more than an instant before he swam under the _Arcas_ to
board from the other side.

Deactivating his invisibility, Artifice assumed Karl's form again, intending
to seek out his quarry. Drying himself virtually instantaneously, he descended
to the passenger-decks and located Amaan's cabin. Finding the door
strangely unbolted, he entered.

Resting on a high stool, illuminated as if by a pale inner light, was a
most extraordinary vessel. It was transparent, but its refraction distorted
the image of objects within. Artifice clearly spied Amaan, and prepared
to destroy the vessel and kill him.

\STANDBY: RE-ASSESS POSITION OF TARGET

Artifice's sensory input clearly indicated that Amaan was inside the bottle...

\STANDBY... but the geometry...

\PROCESSING... Two Moebius bands-joined... inside the bottle...

...Artifice was inside the bottle, and Amaan was outside... Amaan was inside...

the bottle... inside... outside... the bottle...

\PROCESSING-PLEASE STANDBY

Helplessly confused, trapped in a logical loop, Artifice froze in position
next to the Klien bottle. His body, his limbs did not move, but his
pupils dilated with impossible speed- assessing and re-assessing the
subject.

\PLEASE STANDBY....
