The opening of the city gates is accompanied by the usual complaints of the crowd and th guards' usual bitching. But all things considered, it looks like today was going to be another quite day: just harmless commoners to harass and the occassional noble to kiss up to. About 8 AM, this notion gets thrown out the castle gate. Thorr-kan is in a good mood as minotaurs go. He has spent the last three days on the road, enjoying the solitude and the scenery. The only problem had been a run-in with a pair of evil wizards. Why couldn't evil wear black here, like at home? ;-) Life is so much easier when is does. But thanks to a few tricks and a bit of luck, the White Minotaur had emerged victorious and unscathed. (ADMIN: I hate papers. I really, really hate papers. Especially on subjects I am not familiar with. Tag-team, husband-wife professor teams aren't a blast either! But I LOVE friends with computers. Especially those that will let me use them at all hours when that demon, Inspiration, hits. But the damn class is done, and I did well enough to survive until spring semester starts.) As he approaches the gate, a cry goes up. The watch has seen many strange things, but seven and a half feet of cheerful minotaur comes close to the top of their list. The crowd parts about Thorr-kan as he and Gleep approach. "Beast-man! Halt and state your business!" rings out from the guardhouse. Thorr-kan smiles. As anyone can guess, a minotaur smile shows MANY teeth. "I am simply a peaceful traveler, wishing only to seek the Dragon's Inn and the company of friends," Thorr-kan bellows, silently adding, if any are left alive. "Peaceful? Armed like THAT?! Yah, sure. You will have to leave your weapons here and stay with an escort at all times." A rumble escapes the White Minotaur's throat. He shifts his stance, preparing himself for a fight. "Do you really wish to try and enforce that, little human?" he growls. "I so not wish to kill you, but I will not have my honor degraded by leaving." Tension builds as the guards encircle Thorr-kan. A fight is the last thing he needs. But such insults to his honor cannot go unanswered. Suddenly, a voice rings out from the crowd. "Hold, Guardsman. I will vouch for the warrior." A guard captain steps out of the shadows. Instantly, the leader of the gate squad becomes respectful. "Sorry, sir. But I have rarely seen such a creature, and was only thinking of caution..." The captain smiles softly. "I know. You are to be commended. Carry on while I see to this one." He turns to Thorr-kan. "You will come with me. I will see you to the Inn of Dragons and be certain you are not accosted again. But by royal command, your halberd must be covered and your peace-strings fastened." The White Minotaur nods slowly. This human has a familiar smell to him, but Thorr-kan cannot place it. He does as bid. The two set off. Several minutes after leaving the gate, the guard captain catches Thorr-kan's arm. "Hold, milord. I have come far seeking you. Flesh shifts, the human flowing, growing taller. In his place stands a six six green skinned humanoid. Black hair flows past his shoulders, and the light sparkles off silver eyes. Thorr-kan chuckles deeply. "A perfect entrance, as always, Serrin. What brings you so far from Krynn?" -Thorr-kan, the White Minotaur ******************************************************************************** Peace through strength!
