Message-ID: <1993Feb15.125033.19554@ccd.harris.com> Date: Mon, 15 Feb 1993 12:50:33 GMT The battle was over, and the bodies of the dead and wounded lay scattered about. Alaric knelt to clean his sword on the fur of a fallen tiger, then went to see what healing needed to be done. His eyes fell first on Garriot, lying bleeding but conscious beside the body of the weretiger. Alaric pulled out a silver pendant, and began to murmur a few words over Garriot...the bleeding stopped, and the wounds began to close. Other nasty looking wounds were treated, and Alaric realized that he hadn't seen Khisanth. A piteous mewling drew his attention. Marran'helarr, one wing torn and bleeding, was clawing in vain at one of the weretiger corpses. Something ragged and black stuck out from under the tiger. Alaric ran over to the tiger, a growing sense of dread filling his stomach. His heart beating rapidly, he picked up the tiger corpse and hurled it aside, revealing the bruised and torn body of his beloved crumpled beneath. He gently laid Khisanth's body flat. A weak pulse and almost inaudible, irregular breathing indicated that she yet lived, but just barely. In a shaking voice, he called out for bandages and water. His hands trembled as he uttered a prayer of healing over her. The bleeding stopped, and a few of the wounds started to close, but he could do no more. Marra licked at one of the smaller wounds, and one could see what looked to be tears in the little cat's eyes. Alaric wrapped his cloak around Khisanth, and cradled her in his arms, holding her close. Marra took her perch on his shoulder, wrapping her tail around his neck. A silver tear traced the scar on his cheek as he knelt in the twilight, keeping a silent vigil as his love lay dying. -- Belinda Asbell + System Administrator, Harris Controls Division mba@ccd.harris.com + Any opinions presented are mine alone.
