There wasn't a cloud in the sky, now that the snow had stopped, and the stars were twinkling pristinely. Of course, there wasn't a single person at the Dragon's Inn who was currently concerned with that: Littlefair walked up behind the swarm of guards at the apartment door and yelled at them, "What do you think you're all doing?" The guard captain turned to Littlefair and said, "As I said: there are some criminals in here and we're going to root them out." "And do you have a warrant for this?" The guard captain gave a start. "Oops! A warrant?" About that exact time the door finally gave way with a crash to the guards' pummeling and six guards or so poured into the room. Taking a quick look around, they spotted Denner feet disappearing up and out of the newly-made hole in the inn room's roof. "Oh, so you *don't* have a warrant in here, eh? I guess that means you've got no business here except to make trouble, eh?" Littlefair and Listener began to roll up their sleeves and advanced to the troop of guards. "Uh, hold it, wait.." The guard captain broke into a nervous sweat, being well aware of the bouncing reputations of Littlefair and Listener.. ************ Up on the roof, Kal and his companions were looking around, trying to find a good way to escape the guards below on the ground, surrounding the Inn. The Hag noted the six guards trying to scrabble up through the hole she made in the roof, and started to administer swift kicks and claw swipes at the extended arms reaching up. Her works were soon made redundant, though, as the arms disappeared with a shout of surprise, a sound being followed by a good deal of muffled yelling, shouting, and pummeling sounds. Amidst the noise, Listener's head popped up through the roof, and focused his eyes on the startled group. "You there! I don't care what you've done, or what trouble you're in, but you are NEVER coming back to this Inn! NEVER! Now GET OUT OF HERE!", and Listenerk's head disappeared back down into the Inn to continue bouncing away at the troop of city guards. With that, the Sea Hag gave one last look around. "Well, my work here is done. You all remember what I said, or fate will have no mercy on you!" The Sea Hag disappeared into thin air. ************* [Look! Look up there!] The hooded figure and the mischevious young man looked up at the Inn's roof, where five shadowed forms could be made out. [There they are! I knew it.. they've escaped the guard's clutches. GUARDS! FIRE ON THOSE CRIMINALS WITH YOUR ARROWS! HAVE NO RESERVE AGAINST THESE DANGEROUS BEINGS!!] Up on the roof, E'Karam thought he heard something from the hooded figure down on the snow. "WHAT WAS THAT YOU SAID?!" Denner spun. "Karam! Don't draw attention to us!" [YOU! CURSE YOU, YOU FOUL BEING! YOU SHALL ALL BURN IN THE PITS OF HADES WHEN YOU DIE AT OUR HANDS, YOU..] "WHAAAT! I CAN'T HEEEARRR YOUUUU..." [I SAID..] E'Karam waved him off and turned to the rest of the group. "Don't you just hate it when people don't speak up?" [ARGH! If only I had a real voice instead of this hushed ominous tone.. And I suppose none of the guards heard my warning either. Oh well...] The figure was interrupted in his musings by a series of shouts as half of the guard and the guard captain was rudely thrown out the Inn's front door, followed by Listener and Littlefair, dusting off their trousers. "And stay out!" they yelled in unison, and walked back into the inn to great applause from the Inn patrons. The guard captain clumsily scrabbled to his feet, and yelled to the guards encircling the Inn, "Fire on the criminals perched on the roof above!" The encircling guards all began to notch their arrows to their bows... ADMIN: This is Part One of 'The Great Escape.' -Aphoriel/Kinsman Sean Givan
