Well, really, it was almost midnight. And very strange noises were coming from the garden. But wait - let's go back to just before sunset. 'Raelf had long ago gotten the halfling chef and his sou-chef from Luthor's kitchens, and showed them the principles of Pizza and explained the reasons for the various sauces and cheeses, and when they demonstrated that they could duplicate the recipes he'd been making, 'Raelf locked the door from his pizza-kitchen into the rest of the LightHouse, and turned over the pizza ovens and the ingredients to them. Then he stood back and watched the really STRANGE things come out of the kitchen, and shrugged and disowned them. Broccoli and feta cheese pizza. Shudder. Veggie hell. There was such a thing as going too far. He hefted the box he'd brought back with him from the LightHouse and went off in search of his double. 'Raelf-who-had-been-cooking came up to 'Raelf-talking-shop-with-Serene and took off his slightly soiled white coat, trading it for the colorful hawaiian shirt worn by his double, then (taking over in mid-sentence) went on with the conversation while the other went back to the pizza gateway. Serene watched this with a slight sense of disbelief, and interrupted their conversation about martial arts styles in order to demand an explanation. "Oh. Well, it's a matter of timing. See, I had to backtime about a day in order to go shopping, so I decided to enjoy the party first, and then take off when things got a little less hectic. So now I'm back from the pizza and I can continue our conversation from where I interrupted me." "Uh. right." "Think of it like waiting until uke has engaged the attack before you apply the defense." "That doesn't make any sense at all." "You're right." "What's in the box?" "It's some stuff I ordered for Lancos - he wanted to know what kind of party games I knew.
