From: Thorr-kan, the White Minotaur, and Horde Father-Confessor Newsgroups: alt.pub.dragons-inn Subject: [Roaming] Musings Date: 26 Aug 1993 23:24:23 GMT Message-ID: <25jgn7INN73o@news.gac.edu> From the personal journals of Mathias Schofield, Imperial Governor of the Southern Reaches: "I am greatly perturbed. Many weeks ago, I sent a young friend on a journey of discovery. He was to be without aid, without contact. It would be his duty to find a way back to us on his own. "But of late, ripples have crossed the continuum concerning my young friend. It seems he will become a focal point between two beings of Power. They are not gods, not quite. But their abilities are such that my poor young friend has very little chance of standing against them. Thaddius is no younger that I was while facing Tarkon the Destroyer, but I was an anomaly, a kink in the plans of Fate. Thaddius is alone, far from his goddess and home. "He is to have no help. That is the letter of the law. But the law did not intend for the active intervention of demi-gods, either. It is within reason to give assistance. My duty to the Emperor forbid my seeking him out and offering aid. But others stand ready in my stead. One is Marty Tunnelhopper, a kender and a warrior of no small skill and cunning. He shall be my eyes and ears. The other is Lady Ellen, a paladin of the One. Her stake is personal; Thaddius is her betrothed. By her aura will I track the two. "I wish them good fortune..." ----- From the journals of Thaddius Farsinger, of the Roamer Companions: "2 August 1993. World: Nexus, Location: Edge of the Great Forest. "Four weeks! It has been four weeks since I have set foot in the real world. I have only a handful of days before my marriage ceremony, yet I have pledged myself to aid the Lady in her struggle against the vampire, Thorne. "Milady, wherever you may Roam, I give you my apologies. But I have given my word; I must see this through to the end. It would be wrong of me to turn my back or to endanger others. "Farewell. "I love you." ----- Somewhere between Generica and the Great Forest, an army is on the move. Corrupted children of nature are its outriders, warning others of their coming and sweeping opposition from the path. Creatures of darkness, those dead that have not moved on are its vanguard, and their ranks grow hourly. And in the center, felt but unseen are those that dwell on the borders of reality. All hunger for a life-force beyond that of mortals. They are headed for the largest concentration of it in this part of Nexus. And all that stands before them is a lone half-elf unaware of his peril. -Thaddius Farsinger "After all this time, it seems I _was_ born to walk alone..." ******************************************************************************* Sometimes, those you love most are the ones you have to leave behind.
