[VampQ] Billy and Rommel -- The Dangle Me / Beat Me Tour

Admin: [This post is a solo effort by:

John [JGE] Billy the Torch

Synopsis: As they begin their journey to find the
mysterious Vampire Orchid, some adventurers are attacked
in the wilderness. Billy the Torch has narrowly escaped
a sniper's arrow, and his companions have left him for
the moment to join battle elsewhere.]

===========================================================

Watching Tomonobu run off after Blue, Billy figured the
safest place to be was right where he was. He sat down to
relax in a pile of leaves, and prepared to wait for the storm
to die down. From deep in the woods, he heard the rumble of
huge footsteps. They sounded vaguely familiar, as though they
belonged to someone he knew. He traced the far reaches of his
mind...

The instant he realized who owned those monstrous feet,
Rommel the Ogre burst into the clearing, as only an ogre
could do best. "You failed, poor old man. Me going to crush
you with bare hands!" Billy's first reaction was to flee, but
upon realizing he was still invisible, a better plan came to
him...

"How you miss them, me want to know. Not know how to
use your bow?" Rommel said, grabbing the injured archer by
the back of his shirt and lifting him off the ground. This
action Billy knew well. Rommel had had him in a similar
situation not too long ago. He knew what he had to do.

Unsheathing his daggers, he crept over to the giant,
preparing to stab the ogre in the back, or as high up as he
could reach. Suddenly, Rommel whirled around, throwing his
captive against a tree, and hitting Billy as well. The
force was strong enough to knock him to the ground, and his
bracelet flew off in the other direction, making him visible
and vulnerable at the same time.

Tripping over Billy on his way to finishing off the poor
archer, Rommel looked down to see what was in his way. "Where
you come from, me no see you - Hey! You Billy! Me kill you
too!" The ogre was overjoyed at his good fortune, and decided
to forget about the old man for a moment. He hefted Billy up
by his boot and inspected his catch, before he could scamper
over to his bracelet.

Still retaining one of his daggers, Billy thrust it into
the exposed muscular thigh of the giant. He dropped the
little thief, and let out a yell of pain:
"No bees, not spring. Me be stung by Billy sting!" True enough
the dagger was no more than an insect bite to an ogre. It managed
to give Billy the time to get his bracelet on, though. By this
point, the ogre was thoroughly confused, seeing his prey disappear
before his eyes. The minds of ogres were not meant to comprehend
such things as vanishing men. He just stood there and scratched
his thick head.

Now invisible, he stood about a one in ten chance of winning
here. Grabbing the archer's bow, he proceeded to pelt the ogre
with arrows. It served only to annoy Rommel further, and give him
more drive to squash Billy. He simply didn't have the power to
damage him.

     There was the key.

He had friends capable of dispatching the ogre. Why not
stall him somehow and then go get someone who could really
fight.

Reaching into his satchel, he removed a length of twine,
thin but strong. It was the same stuff he used for scaling walls,
as he could fit a lot of it in a small pack. He tied one end to
an arrow, the other he held. Using the best aim he could, he shot
the arrow into the leg of the ogre, and ran around a thick tree
with the other. Around and around he went, while the ogre
struggled just to get that arrow out of his leg. The tangle
caused Rommel to lose his balance, and he fell to the ground with
a resounding THUD!

As quickly as the nimble thief could, he wrapped a length
around the thick ogre neck, and attached the other to the already
tangled feet. He scurried over to the semi-conscious old man,
and helped him to his feet.

"C'mon, buddy! That won't hold him for long! Let's go get
help!" And the pair limped out into the swirling winds, not
sure exactly where that help was going to come from, since he
couldn't see a thing through the blowing debris.
