They travelled for a day fairly uneventfully. Everyone, except for John, who
concentrated on keeping the path, was getting fidgety. Something HAD to happen
soon to break the boredom. At the beginning of the second day's journey,
Aylyra told John to take a break, she'd find the path for a while.
After about an hour, the path suddenly left the river and turned sharply
into the woods. John checked the path, and as Aylyra was about to lead the
party in, he put a restraining hand on her.
"That way is dangerous," he said bluntly.
"But Ixy went this way!" pleaded Aylyra, "We must follow. Surely your coins
tell you this is the path."
John double checked the reading- asking specifically if Ixnaphior had gone
in this direction. Sure enough, the coins said yes.
"You are right, but something isn't quite right."
"Perhaps we can get a better answer from your coins, John. Ask what the
problem is."
John replied slowly, "Well, the coins don't work that way, they just give
a 'yes' 'no' or 'maybe' answer, possibly strong or weak."
Aylyra thought this over. "Maybe if we had the proper choice of questions,
we could learn the problem that way."
They began asking questions, with suggestions from all party members.
"Is there a trap?" Coins are tossed: Yes
"Is it a pit or snare?" toss: No
"Is there something living that way?" toss: Yes
"other than Ixy?" toss: Yes
.
.
.
and so the questions went until finally they deduced the situation.
"OK." Aylyra began her final question. "Is there an ambush planned by agents
of the Black Eel down the path which will lead us where Ixnaphior went?"
toss: YES!
"Now we need to plan for the attack. Assuming that the ambush is there for
anyone who goes by, even if we determine the number of attackers, it could
change by the time we get there. Also," she looked at John, who appeared quite
weary after all the divination, "I don't think John can take too much more
predicting just now.
  "Any suggestions?"
