Let's hope this works ...] >"But I have spoken for too long and burdened you with my troubles. What I >need is to hear others talk. What have you to say since last we met?" "Well," Brent spoke up. "First of all, your words don't seem 'burdening' to me. Though I guess you can't know about the hardship I"ve encountered. Besides, it can't hurt to say things like that every once in a while. "Anyway, I feel I should say something about your concerns. If it pleases you, I know this there's also people who keep the _real_ versions of tales. For example, I know Listener wouldn't settle fro less than the truth." The guard lifts his ale in appreciation at the bard, who had turned his head their direction at the mention of his name. "I won't really comment about life on the road. Though I've heard several people tell about good and bad times there, _I've_ spent most of my life, largely contently, in two cities. I've never really had any dreams or desires to be a hero, but maybe that goes with having survival as the main goal for a good part of my life." The half-elf sighed under his breath, remembering -- somewhat involuntarily -- some unpleasant bits of his past. "But I can tell you, Zebron, that you _can_ find a home here, much like I did. In fact..." he paused, thinking about how the Drow had taken his other advice, and changed his approach slightly. "Well, I would -- and can -- offer a way to do it. After all, there are several places of safety in Generica, and you know I've the contacts to help. Of course, despite you having more 'friends'," Brent curled his lip in sarcasm "I have a feeling you'd find it too constraining. "Anyway, here's hopin you stay in Generica as long as you like. And as long as you stay within the law." Brent added with a wink. "I think this town is aptly prepared for anything thrown at it, and that this table contains three of your friends, who will always be happy to talk with you. "Which reminds me. Since you ask of recent events, I'll pass along the well-wishes of our friend Mathew Dawnstrider, who I saw before he left on a quest. However, that's about all the update I'll give, since things have been all-too-busy here, as is apparently normal for this town." The guard paused for a second, and then let out a chuckle. "Of course, I've been told that I wouldn't live my life any other way. "And I doubt that'll be a problem anytime soon. After all, there's this Housestorming that I should look into. And they're apparently bringing people from a foreign land to live in the Low City, which guarantees to be a job the guard will be involved in. And who knows when something might drop from the sky, to turn a phrase?!" [ADMIN: Hopefully, people won't mind the reference to their threads. I know Brent is at best tentatively involved in them (though he's currently free for virtually any such interaction), but he's built to be a well- informed char...] "Anyway, enough from me, for now. I'll say more if you wish, but I'd also like to hear from Khisanth and Alaric. After all, unlike Mathew and Zebron, there haven't even been rumors of what you've been up to..." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael Sander 344lwkc@cmuvm.csv.cmich.edu [Final ADMIN: Heh, I kind of wonder if I don't have my chars in the wrong place. After all, Brent would have a better idea about Little Rat's life, and Lancos would know more the depth of feeling Zebron's expressing. Oh well, so is life...]
