Newsgroups: alt.pub.dragons-inn From: SMS27538@vax1.utulsa.edu Subject: [KB][BIOVAMP] Introducing the Bio-Vampires Message-ID: <940110141511.2060c058@vax1.utulsa.edu> Date: Mon, 10 Jan 1994 20:12:41 GMT Kitsune had been travelling around the woods near Generica for a few hours and had become lost in his own thoughts. "It took some doing," he wondered. "but I got the gift for Fire. She's so much like... like.. her..., like both of them." He flinched as painful memories involuntarily rose to the surface of his consciousness. A tear trickled down Kitsune's eye. "It's been many centuries, and I still can't forget them." He knelt down in prayer. "Listen my nearest to my heart, I miss you very much. Perhaps one day I shall see you both again." As Kitsune rose to his feet, the hairs on the back of his head began to prickle and a small shiver ran down his spine. He turned to look behind him, but saw nothing. Quietly he crouched down and pulled himself out of his thoughts. Then he noticed that the forest was silent. There was no sound of birds singing, or squirrels rustling in the branches of the trees. Then, partially out of instinct, he began the change. His hair changed from black to brown then to red, and it spread across his body. His ears extended, moving nearer to the top of his head. His nose grew, lengthening into a snout. His arms and legs began to shorten, and his body began to shrink. Soon he was transformed into a fox. "Now," he thought, "let's take a look at what's going on." A sniff of air was all he needed to alert him to the source of the dangers. Humans, the sent was unmistakable. Two of them from what he could sort out, but one of them had a tinge of something strange in his scent. The fox circled around, behind the danger, and watched on. There were two men by the road, one circling the other. Kitsune was standing by the remains of a campsite, and from the marks ands smells, he could tell that they these men had been sleeping there recently. There was a makeshift tent that had fallen down. From the looks of things, these two men bandits. Since there were only two it seem likely that they were here to signal the other when a easy target passed by. The camp was well hidden, and provided an excellent view of the road, so Kitsune entered it. Then suddenly first man leaped at the second, delivering a blow like a sledge hammer, cracking the other man's skull.... ...instant death. It was to late for Kitsune to help. The killer leaned over his victim, bending down to bit him on the neck. Kitsune was confused. "He hasn't the smell of the undead, I know what a vampire smells like. Is he some kind of fanatic. But his strength was supernatural. I'd best strike now, while he is feeding, and therefore vulnerable." In an instant, Kitsune changed back to his human form. Grabbing a. piece of wood that had been used as a stake, he moved in with lightning quickness. The stake reached its mark, piercing the heart through the rib-cage; Kitsune could thank both skill and luck for his success. "I just hope he's a clasic western vampire, like Dracula." Kitsune thought "If he's an Anne Rice vampire, I'm in deep trouble." Then, he saw it. He hadn't noticed it in fox form, but now that he could see colors more clearly and had a closer view, he discovered that the "man" he had killed had a greenish tinge over his body. "What is this," he mused, "looks like it could be a fungal infection of some sort. Athlete's body wouldn't be far off judging from the way he moved." He scraped a sample from the man's skin, being careful not to touch the infection himself, placing it in a small container. He began to cast a spell on the sample, in an attempt to determine its nature, but the energy he used to cast the spell was sucked up by the fungus like a sponge. By examining the body, Kitsune discovered that the "vampire" had actual fangs. "Well this is just great," though Kitsune "I don't have the energy to a plane where medicine is good enough to find a cure, and by the time I recouperate. Kitsune, for an old fox, you can be very foolish, wasting all that energy just to get Fire a saxiphone. Now how am I going to explain fungal infections to these people? I guess I'll have to find an old fashion herbal cure, never was very good with futuristic medicine anyway. If I can reach Etarus'tu, I could enlist Hananiwa's aid."" [ADMIN: Note, these new "bio-vampires" I have created, our for the use of anyone who wants to include them in a thread. If you will send me e-mail at Sms27538@vax1.utulsa.edu or seebass@hpc1.utulsa.edu. I will fill you in on some more details about the infection. I am trying to create a thread element, rather than a thread itself. Ideally I would like the bio-vampires to show up in other peoples thread (perhaps as a side plot) rather than for a thread in and of themselves, they should gradually cause problems, until they get to the point where something has to be done about it.] "Back in Soochow we grow men so big that their heads brush the clouds and while their feet are planted on the ground."(said by a Thug) "Indeed? In my humble village," said Master Li sweetly, "we grow men so big that their upper lips lick the stars and their lower lips nuzzle the earth." The thug thought about it. "And where were their bodies?" "They were like you," said Master Li, "All mouth." -----Bridge of Birds.
