"That tree moved." Palandun said to himself, making a notation in his book. "The forest is intellegent. It thinks." An old man said, coming up and looking at his notebook. "What are you doing?" "I'm trying to map this area." Palandun replied, "Kind of a pain, actually, 'cause what I want to map keeps moving." The old man sighed, "Your kind never did appreciate what it was looking at." "My kind?" "Biologists. Always measuring and sampling and examining, never appreciating the whole." "Missing the forest for the trees? Sometimes, I'll admit. On the other hand, there's a whole branch dedicated to studying the whole. And perhaps people get the beauty of it better once they understand it?" The Old man laughed. "This debate will never be over, will it?" "You brought it up. Who are you, anyway?" "My name is Vitor. Yours?" "Palandun. Pleased ta meetcha." They shook hands. "Staying here long?" "No, I have to get back to the gardens." "Yeah, I hear you. I should probably take a vacation before I come back myself." Palandun finished sketching his map, then put his notebook back in his bag. "Well, I gotta go look for squirrels. See you around?" "We will meet again." They waved and Palanun wandered off. Eventually he came upon Withold the Kender, and told him about the man he had met. Withold seemed scandalized, saying that Vitor was some kind of high Druid or other, and why would Palandun talk to one of *them*? Palandun wondered why he wouldn't, provided this Vitor person knew hat he was about.
