For the first time, Palandun munched on a Dragons-inn breakfast without Ja'nis on the other side of the table. She had, apparently, left during the night, and Palandun hadn't had the opportunity to stagger into anyone else's room in a drunk yet. The food was good, though, and Palandun munched hungrily while unfolding and reading the parchement handed to him by a guild messenger. If he'd have actually been drinking his orange juice, he would have spit it up. As it was, he choked a bit then exclaimed: "Gack! Here?? Now?! Why didn't they tell me sooner?!" Rowan, Bob, and most of the inn leapt to Palandun's medical aid, and Listener began a healing song, but as soon as they realized that he was capable of semi-coherent speech stopped in their tracks. For himself, Palandun suddenly felt like he owed the universe some kind of explination. "A couple _thousand_ Bismanians are in ships bound for here to found a colony, they should arrive within the week. I'm supposed to find housing for them all." "Well," Cliffie said, handing Palandun the _Examiner_'s classified section, "You'd better get stahted." "Audrey's Furniture shoppe," Norm suggested, "Lotsa houses there." Palandun had faced down Balrogs armed only with his trusty sword and a rock, led platoons into pits so full of orcs that they couldn't move around, and singlehandedly met and tamed a barbarian nation, but the task of finding 1,000 households within a week kinda phased him. "Why do you have to find it for them anyway?" Norm asked. "'Cause I'm the ambassador to the east continent, and the welfare and administration of any bismanians in my territory is my job." "Looks like you'll have to get a whole section of town." Norm said, "And then you gotta evict everybody, then deal with the bad publicity..." "That's a great idea!" Palandun said, snapping his fingers. Everybody looked at him a little strange, until he expanded, "We'll take over a new section of town! No, wait, can't evict anybody, though. Need one with a high vacancy rate...Got it! Low town, it's perfect! I gotta go." He said, gathering up his cloak, "Mary, Great Food!" He shouted, and dashed out the door. "Dude forgot to pay for his breakfast." Rowan said, his remarks were punctuated with an "OW!" as a silver piece flew in the open window and beaned him. Melwis had gotten a new envoy and wasn't dealing with ambassadors anymore, so Palandun had to go to the Diplomatic Residence and Hostel. The new envoy greeted him rather coldly as he slid into a chair on the opposite side of the desk. "I want part of Low City." he said without preamble. For his part, the new envoy did not like early morning meetings, less so when the foreigners came in and started demanding sections of Generica. "I *beg* your pardon." he replied. "Low City." Palandun plowed on, "over there," He waved his hand in a southwards direction, "I want to lease it as bismanian territory." "You want to lease the Low City?" "Yup." "The *entire* low city?" "Heck no, just the part between the shunned center and Merchant's hill." The Envoy placed his head in his hands, this was entirely too early for him. "Pray tell *why* on Nexus you would do such a thing?" "Didn't I tell you? No? Oh. Anyway, I got a letter this morning from a certain bismanian business conglomerate, apparently they had assembled about three or four kilopeople and set sail for here for purpose of founding a colony in Generica. It's actually fairly common, there are colonies like this all over the west continent and Newmeanor. Anyway, they're due in within the week." "Gack." The envoy said. "That's what I said." "I will inform the great Melwis." The envoy said, returning to his cold annoyed manner. "And return with an answer today or tomorrow. Thank you." "Don' mention it." Palandun said, "'Bye." He drifted out, suddenly realizing that he had only eaten half his breakfast." ADMIN: Like before, anybody who wants in, send mail. I'm also thinking of changing the thread name to [Colony] or something. Don't know. Need input.
