He walked his horse into the stable yard, taking time to make sure the animal was comfortable before taking his gear and walking into the Inn. He was mildly surprised to see such a crowd in an inn so early in the evening. The interior of the place was very strange. For one thing, many of the patrons seemed to be a bit... unusual. For another, the common room seemed to have dozens of corners! Dervanis wasn't a superstitious person, but he had to fight an urge to clasp the holy symbol of Ilmater that hung about his neck nonetheless. Magic was something the knight simply wasn't used to, and there seemed to be a large amount of it concentrated in this very room in which he stood. He shook it off, and walked over to the bar. A few seconds later, the barkeep bustled over to him. "Goodday sir, and welcome to my fine establishment. My name is Rowan Littlefair. Let's see, you look like the type who might like... well... Ah! Elvenblossom wine, that's it!" Dervanis was amazed. "How did you know that? That's the only thing I drink!" he asked in amazement. Littlefair simply smiled and winked. "You can hang your gear up over there by the door," he said, still smiling. "Nobody will bother it, I can garuantee." Leaving the glass of wine on the bar, he turned to speak to another patron. Dervanis hung his gear on a wooden peg by the door, then picked up his drink and sat down at one of the few empty tables in the common room. He took a small sip of the wine, and then smiled. It was some of the best he had ever tasted. He leaned back in his chair and wondered how long it would be before his past companion would arrive. ________________________________________________________________________________ Jason Rosenberger, rosenje@wkuvx1.bitnet, Western Ky Universty
