Granite was well satisfied sitting on his shoulder, and the sunlight dappled the greenery of the surroundings as it filtered through the rustling foliage around the company. He kept easy time with them, a surprising feat for one of such short stature. He read from an old book much of the time, relying on the tracking and divining skills of Aylyra and John. He was as overjoyed as Aylyra to discover the remains of Ix- naphior's camp. He could not have been *too* far gone, then. "Lucky this company was gathered as quickly as it was," he thought. "This way we'll maintain as warm a trail as possible." He'd checked the deerskin for any residual heat, but the campground was old enough that the skin had cooled to background temperature. "Well," he mentally amended, "not *that* warm a trail." He found John Wanderer's box of coins interesting. Limited, but interesting. It had already proved its usefulness, putting the company on Ixnaphior's trail so quickly. He hoped his own staff could provide more detailed information as they approached whatever gaol or hideout Ixnaphior might be held at. > and so the questions went until finally they deduced the situation. > "OK." Eski mentally flipped through the spells he had memorized for the trip thus far. He'd need some idea of where the attackers were for most of them to be any use. Perhaps -- yes! He piped up, "Perhaps I could create an illusion of our party travelling far ahead of us. If the ambushers go for that, they'll betray their position, and we'll actaully have the jump on them!" He placed his hand on a wand fastened to his belt, a foot-long sliver of cut crystal. "This could generate our likenesses for some small time. Its power *is* limited, unfortunately, so, if we had some better idea of how much farther the ambush would take place-- "Oh! What if they had a scout waiting for us to show? He might see the illusion and report it to the main group. Perhaps one of us might do some scouting?" > -- > "Feel the POWER of the wind" ---Whirlwind |zweldron@ruhets.rutgers.edu > "Feel the POWER" --- The Addams Family |zweldron@dorm.rutgers.edu > "Never underestimate the POWER of the Twilight Zone" --- Twilight Zone > (so I'm on a POWER trip :-)
