When he finally lost sight of the copper haired warrior, he bowed his head and wept. Whatever had taken Elanon from them seemed to have his consent, although why Elanon had left them behind Kyar could not fathom. Perhaps he meant to sacrifice himself for the good of the others. Alarond was taking it hardest. He was practically screaming in grief, trying, it seemed, to leap into the sea and follow Elanon to the ends of the earth. Kyar felt for him. He knew that the sprite had a special bond with Elanon, and now felt the pain of that bond breaking. If not for Peregrine Wanderer holding the sprite back, Kyar was sure he would have drowned himself swimming after Elanon. "It can't be over Kyar!" the sprite cried. "How do we free Quar'tima now? What will we do? Is this the end of the Company?" Kyar had no answer for the sprite. Without Elanon, he really didn't know where to go from here. When the red-haired warrior had been poisoned, It hadn't really bothered the group much. Everyone seemed sure that he would recover. But this... Kyar knew there would be no recovery this time. Elanon was lost to them. Kyar turned his back to the others, bowing his head in sorrow. Then Peregrine began to sing. The song was not something that Kyar could understand, but it had a profound effect on him. At first it seemed to intensify his grief, but as he listened, he came to accept what had happened, and moved beyond his sorrow. The wound of Elanon's loss had begun to heal. He turned back to Peregrine and Alarond. He put his hand on the sprite's shoulder. "I think we should continue Elanon's quest," he said. "It's the least we can do to honor his memory, and his sacrifice." Kyar turned again, and looked out across the sea, where Elanon had dissappeared from view. . . .
