He strained to open his eyes, all he could remember as he looked up was the bright flash as he was getting off the thruway. Now it was dark and the rain was starting to increase. He was obviously outside, and was wondering why no one had stopped to help him. There was more than enough traffic when the accident occurred; somebody should of seen it! Is there no decency in the world any more? As he sat up he looked around. He noticed the debris of some shattered structure, and metal twisted in gruesome ways. He then thought that he might of been in the hospital and that somehow maybe a fire had broken out. What luck! But then why was he not burned or hurting more? And where were the rescue units. Then his worst nightmare came to him. Nuclear War! He was fear stricken that he might be the only creature left alive! That he would soon mutate into some sick form and roam the country. Why? is all he could think. As he sat there in silence he noticed some light seeping up from the ground a few feet away from him. He slowly crawled on his hands and knees (to sore to walk) towards the light. Pushing away a wood plank he noticed stairs going down into the ground. He paused then looked around again and noticed that he was in fact on the roof of some building. He quickly crawled down the stairs to the shelter of the lighted room below. The room was dry and warm except at the bottom of the stairs where the rain was coming through the open stairway. He was half expecting someone to pop out from behind a corner and yell brugler! The room was round, possibly some type of tower he thought to himself, and setup as a bedroom. And the furniture was not the type that he expected to be in a hospital. A large bed with wood headboard that was carved into a head of some lizard was against the wall across from the stairs. A small desk with a mirror, and a chest were closer to the stairs going up. Another set of stairs going down were behind the ones coming down from the outside. Pulling the sheet from the bed he ventured towards the stairs going down. He did not want to run into the owners total naked. Down the stairs was another strange room. Nothing what he expected to be in a hospital. On one wall away from the stairs was a large wooden door that had a heavy metal bar locking it closed. in the center of the room was a round table with five chairs seated around it. Along the walls were various paintings of epic battles and beautiful landscapes. Again not something you would find in a hospital! Behind the stairs was another door. This one much smaller than the barred door. Opening the door he could see that it was some type of kitchen. It did not look very used because it had a lot of cob webs hanging from most of the utencils. A path of foot prints from the door he entered to a door on the left was the only sign that anyone had been in here in years. Following the footsteps he entered the next room. Here a small room was lit by some type of glowing stones. (Must be some type of crystal that generates light. Sort of like the glow tubes you break in half and light up) At least thats all he could think of Going back upstairs he crawled onto the bed. That was when he passed by the mirror! _____ _____ _____ _____ ____ __ __ | ___| ___| _ | _ | __ |\ \ / / |___ | |___| |_| | |_| | __ > \ / ---|_____|_____|_____|_____|____|--|_|----- ------------------------------------------------------------- Joseph DuBois jdubo.wbst102a@xerox.com -----------------------------------My Thoughts Only----------
