Lightning flashed as I entered Generica. The thump-scrape sound
of my walk attracted the attention of passerby. Of course, I had
gotten used to people staring at my peg leg. They also stared
at the shortened gaff hook which I used for a walking stick. I saw
an inn ahead. "The Dragon's Inn" I muttered to myself. "Sounds
interesting."
My ears, used to hearing the creak of the rigging and the
slap of waves, missed the sound of footfalls behind me. The knife,
shoved rudely into my back, made me wince. 'Five minutes in the
blasted city and already I'm being mugged' I thought to myself. The
high, squeaky voice behind me confirmed my suspicions.
"Give me all your money, Cripple, or else..."
Its too bad this young pup would never see maturity.
With speed born of years on the sea, I spun around and slashed
his knife arm with the gaff hook. He dropped the blade and I swung the
butt end of the staff into his groin. When he doubled over, I brought
my knee up and into his face, splattering his nose. He dropped.
I picked his knife up and put it into my belt. Then, I walked
to the inn.
"You know, I think I'll like this place." I said to the air.
