I was tired. I had been travelling for the past two days. "I have to
get to Generica," I told myself. After all, I had nowhere else to go. After
fleeing my home village, there was nowhere left for me. I had eluded my
pursuers after a day of running and was now on my own. Cries of hatred ran
throughout the forest as I fled. "Demon!... Devil!... Satan!" they called me.
I was never so scared in my life. I didn't know what came over me that stormy
afternoon.. That old man threatened me. It made me burn with anger. I don't
remember what happened after that. All I remember was a flash of light. All
that was left was smoke and a burnt corpse. The village folk, the only
people I've known since birth, cursed me. They called me an incarnation of
evil. I don't even know what I did. I always thought that there was something
special about me, but I never thought it would hurt anyone. I had powers I
never knew about, powers beyond my control. But now, it was all over. I was
free... free to start anew. I was a day's travel away from Generica, at
least, I think I was.

Most of the locals shied away from me. I, a dirty, travel-worn, youth,
with nothing to offer, had scared them away. My clothes were tattered, and
I was in shambles. I had blond hair, but in my condition, it was brown. The only thing that hadn't turn dirty were my green eyes. I had carried nothing. Nothing
to trade for a night's stay in a lofty stable. Nothing to trade for food
and water. I had nothing. I had lived off the berries I found growing in the wild, and water from the many local streams.

I finally reached Generica, tired, poor, and lonely, but I made it. It
was sunset. I wandered the streets aimlessly, looking for anything that
looked like it could be of help. A place to stay, some food to eat... anything.
I came by a inn by the name Dragon's Inn. "Hmm..." I thought, "Better than
nothing..." I entered the tavern, to the sound of loud bantering. Several
eyes glanced at my direction. After a few minutes, they were glaring at me. I
casually walked up to the counter, at least I tried to look casual. I asked
the bartender, "Excuse me, how much for a room and a meal?" Even though I had no
money, I thought I could beg for generosity.

"The way you look, I doubt you could afford it!"

"Well, sir, to tell the truth, I don't have any money," I said, not
realizing my mistake.

"NO MONEY!?!?!?! GET OUT OF HERE!!!!!!!"

"If you please, sir... I've just gotten into town, and I have absolutely no possessions... if you could just give me a room for the night, I'll try to pay
you back as soon as I get some money."

"GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE I HAVE YOU THROWN OUT!!!!"

"Please sir......" I said in a pathetic, low voice, but it was too late.
Before I could say anything else, a strong pair of hands grabbed my by the
shoulders and dragged me out.

It was going to be a tough night, I told myself. I walked around the
corner and decided that the same incident would happen everywhere else I go.
I needed money, and I needed it now. Too bad there isn't money lying on the
floor everywhere. I finally decided to spend the night in a lonely dark alley.
I chose the first alley I saw. Walking in, I went to the back, and hid behind a
large pile of trash. "Well, Meric, this is a fine mess you've gotten yourself
into...," I softly whispered, as I laid down to sleep....
