Although only a tradesman, it gave him the freedom to both settle down for long periods of time and to travel to do his magical research. After some months traveling through space his ship was attacked by another ship. Whether the ship was invisible or there were accomplices on-board he may never find out. He awoke to the sound and sensation of a projectile crashing through his cabin, flinging him out into space. How had the enemy known that, given the magical wards he had placed, that was about the only way to get to him in the cabin without warning? His response was quick and incisive. Fortunately he had accumulated several powerful magic devices as he was not prepared, spellwise, for this encounter. He managed to drive the enemy back long enough to flee. The wild pursuit through space that ensued placed them in the gravity well of some planet. And the other ship was much faster here! He found himself in toe-to-toe combat with a drow elf mage, the same mage from whom he had successfully wrested control of the demon Arwsyb some two years earlier. It was incredible that such a one could have such an increase in power over a few short years! The battle did not last long. Surprised and unprepared for the superior forces of the enemy and the incredible magic used, the resistance was literally snuffed-out. The enemy even unleashed the terrible power of that heinous spell that disrupts the fabric of the universe and destroys magic, at great risk to themselves! What did they want? With his magical defenses shattered, his crew killed or worse, and his ship commandeered, Cabot managed to escape, sort-of. A Softwood spell he had recently bought saved his life. Falling toward planet amongst the debris of the combat, he cast the spell. As the power of the spell placed him in suspended animation he was encased in a thick cocoon of soft, pungent wood. This wood withstood the heat of descent and the impact of landing upon the planet. He awoke near the coast of sea, on which planet he knows not. What he does know is that all but the clothes on his back was destroyed - including his magic books and items. How and by what agent he was tracked down, or betrayed, he also does not know, but they must be powerful indeed. If only he could get to his back-up spell books... But if whoever they were could track him into wildspace, they would surely have some surprises waiting for him upon his return. But first he must survive...
