As ...sage approached Luthor's house he noted all the deliveries (tables, food, musicians) and smiled. The friendly social nature of the inhabitants of Generica always made him smile. His reading of Drow records had helped push back some of the clouds shrouding his memory of the past, and he remembered that in the Drow society a party was a place where assassinations and political jockeying rather than fun and fellowship was the raison d'etre. Mottled green cloak swaying in the gentle breeze that graced Luthor's neighbourhood, ...sage walked up to the door and picked out Luthor by his black clothing and distinctive golden cast. "Hail, Luthor, and greetings to you my Lady" noticing Serene just beyond. "I haven't stepped this way since your child's birth. Pray tell, how does Mista fair?" Serene smiled as any proud mother would. "She is doing just fine. It seems like she is learning a new word every day. Soon enough, she'll be a little chatterbox like her mother. Oh, she likes the book of rhymes that you gave her --" "Nearly as much as I do," Luthor broke in. "It's fascinating how a culture is shaped in the stories and teachings of its children. Just the other day I was talking to the Generic Council about starting -- OOF!" Serene had elbowed him in the ribs. "Luthor, you can lecture to ...sage some other time. Let the poor man enjoy himself." "Oh. Sorry about that. I tend to rattle on at times. Do go inside and listen to some of the Elven Quartet; they are quite good." Luthor pointed inside the House-Tree to the sunken ballroom. The chaotic sounds of tuning musicians was easily heard. "I think I will, but first a gift; it's just a show of thanks in advance." "That's very kind of you ...sage, but it wasn't necessary...what is it?" Luthor asked, more than a little curious. "I thought that it might be nice to add a little sparkle to the evening." With that the air about the elf and half-elf began to sparkle slightly, not enough to distract and be intrusive, but enough to notice and add an uplifting edge to the prevailing atmosphere. "White Russian?" queried Serene of the albino, to which he bowed and said "Your memory serves you very well, Lady. I would be gratified." The sparkling motes diffused and multiplied, and where they spread, smiles appeared and wrinkled brows smoothed. "A minor enchantment" ...sage said in response to a querying look from Luthor. "It highlights pleasant memories and dulls present worries. Not enough to make people forget, or hallucinate, or anything like that. It merely feeds off positive energy and responds with positive energy. Its self replicating in that respect. Once it encounters happy thoughts, it grows. Negative thoughts will cause it to die." "As a side effect - if anyone comes here with intent to disrupt or do harm, the motes will dim around them and make the person feel uncomfortable." "Those with good intent will feel more welcome (no insult to your excellent hospitality intended) - and encourage them to spread good cheer." "For children they provide a form of entertainment. - Look" Pointing to some street urchins that had been watching the proceedings on the street, some were chasing brightly glowing motes that moved about like butterflies. Others were trying to catch ones that winked in and out - occasionally catching one - then laughing as it disappeared in their hand. Others, with scowls on their faces, turned and moved away, motes dimming within their vicinity. Serene returned with a glass and handed it to the elf. "Thanks, my Lady" said ...sage with a bow, taking the drink from her. Then turning back to Luthor he asked "Is there anything else I can do to help?" Luthor thought carefully before replying. "Yes, actually you could be a great help to me, but we'll discuss that later. For now, join the others and celebrate this great day." ...sage -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Pete Calvert : Course Adviser, Commerce Dept, Adelaide Uni, South Australia email : pcalvert@economics.adelaide.edu.au -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- another page from ...sage -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
