L'ai Ch'i awoke with a clear memory of the man's face and a name of sorts to go with it as well: The Boss. He also had a clear feeling of dread. The memory fragments he had gathered all seemed to indicate that this Boss was someone L'ai Ch'i was trying very hard to get away from. He could even be in some way responsible for L'ai Ch'i state. So far, no other clues had arisen from the jumble of his mind. Going out, L'ai Ch'i touched base with as many of the people he'd come to know as he could. A few of them thought they might have seen this Boss person, but only one had talked to him. "Yes, I saw the guy," explained guardsman Petrik. "He asked about someone that was probably you. He said I'd probably hear about you sooner or later since you'd eventually end up getting arrested for drunk and disorderly." "Yes? But I no drink much. I no get in trouble." Petrik nodded. "Yeah, well, he didn't seem to think so. But he seemed like trouble and since you seem a nice guy, I sent him off in the wrong direction. In fact, I sent him toward the Shunned Center. Serves him right." Since L'ai Ch'i's knowledge of Generica did not yet include the Shunned Center, he shrugged and assumed this was helpful news. He dug out a silver and palmed it to the guard. "Have drink. My thanks." Obviously, this Boss person was going to find him sooner or later. L'ai Ch'i decided that he'd better be ready for the meeting and that meant he would have to find some way of getting his mind back into one whole piece. But How? -- Marc C.
