The team had something of a hitchiker, a ghostlike presence that only Miro
and Foxmore had ever shown any signs of picking up the existance of. That
the others didn't find it was not surprising, as the hitchiker was naturally
psi-indetectable and took great pains not to reveal himself.

The Hitchiker also had a plan. Which explains why something that was very
like (But not quite the same as) a needle stabbed itself into the calf of
a goblin, and why that very same goblin promptly passed out on the ground.
The consternation of the neighbor goblins was cut somewhat short by stabbing
pains in their own calves. In this way the goblin force was attenuated, but
not quite brought down, as the hitchiker had brought down the goblin force only
enough to make the odds even, but not so many as to guarentee victory.

This is cryptic. Did you mean "Carry off the king" or "Care for the king"?
