[ADMIN] I'm posting this for Jason, whose news server is giving him
		fits at the moment.

After Coltren's contact with Tevore, the trio moved much more
quickly, their anxiety over Aleric's condition pushing them on. Coltren now
led them in a northerly direction, away from the western track on which they
had sensed the strange blankness. They rode on until well after sunset, until
they could no longer see the trail to take through the dense woods. Kyar
suddenly reigned in his animal, and its sides heaved as it struggled to catch
its breath. Kyar dismounted and turned to face his companions.
"We have to stop for a short time, to rest the horses," Kyar said.
Coltren only nodded, and turned away to tend to his animal. Even Alarond
seemed somewhat subdued, but still tried to cheer his companions. "I'll
find us some firewood and cook us some dinner," the sprite said cheerily.
and rushed off into the trees.
Soon the three companions were seated on logs about a small
campfire, eating their portions of a delicious stew. Kyar had questioned
Alarond about the ingredients, but the sprite merely smiled and suggested
that Kyar would enjoy the stew a great deal more if he remained ignorant of
its recipe.
Coltren remained silent, and after the meal he grabbed his sleeping
roll from his saddle and spread it out on the ground. "Wake me for the
third watch," he said, then went to sleep.
"I will watch first, my friend," Kyar said to Alarond. "I'll wake
you in a few hours."
But as the night passed Kyar did not disturb the sprite. Instead
he moved away from the firelight and drew his scimitar. The silver blade
glinted in the dim light, and the pattern etched into it gleamed. Terhal
was the name of the blade, and the power of the Phadra was inscribed in it.
Kyar sat on the ground, placing the blade across his knees, and
attempted to place himself into a trance, drawing on the power of the blade
as he did so. It took quite some time, for the mental workings of the
Phadra were the hardest for him, and he rarely used them. The physical
came much more easily, altering the abilities of the body, or the
environment around him. Nevertheless, his urgency gave him the strength to
reach the level he needed. When he was finally ready, he reached out with
his mind, searching for Aleric.
He made contact suddenly, much sooner than he had anticipated. He
gasped in pain as he felt Aleric's delirium. Kyar struggled to maintain
contact, to see if he could reach his friend, but Aleric was in a deep coma
and in great pain. Kyar struggled to help, to pull Aleric back to
consciousness, but to no avial. He finally cried out in pain as the
contact was broken, and he lapsed into unconsciousness.
