"Very appropriate apparrel, friend Jones" murmurs BD appreciatively
"The bureaucratic garb becomes you - although I feel you possibly
have too many principles to be a totally convincing bureaucrat . . ."

> as "Guardian" implies that you take care of the people, defending

"I personally like the title Lord Protector and First Father of the
People. It's my old nick-name from a tiny kingdom I once ruled in
Krynn, before the entire dimension was shut down and all us Dragon's
shown the portal, so to speak. Apparently it was this huge tax-haven,
but I hear it's up and running again - perhaps it would be a most
ideal place to abscond after our . . . quest?"

Bodger smirks. "Rathan wont like it - but I think it's for the best.
But afterwards, why don't we put someone in Olaf's place that looks
exactly like him? Maybe we could hire a doppelganger or a polymorph,
or if someone had some appropriate magik item they haven't told us
about yet?"

> people prepared to help us find the traitors? And why, why on
> earth, are you traveling with a *_stinking_* wyrm?"

Bodger mutters to BD: "No accounting for some people. I think our
mate Jorgenson will require some personal tuition about the evils of
speciesism." The dragon rumbles in affirmation. Jorgenson would go
well with a few priests and maybe a side order of town guard.

Bodger sidles up to Jones as BD wrestles with his document, trying to
read it. "How's about we do some extra dealing on the side, if
everything we're going to do in Clarehill will be legal? Turn the
black-market into a trading group By-Royal-Appointment! Start
smuggling Elvish erotica, pipeweed, repeater cross-bows and other
illegal imports in and they can't stop us! We use the money to put
all the trading guilds out of business - as well as the churches, and help
the decay along with a few disappearances in strategic places. We
assassinate Olaf publically, then frame the leader of the guard or
even the Duke with the crime! If I know politics, they already have
their private armies ready to march on the city should their own
positions be in trouble. You know what follows these type of armies -
pillaging and arson. We let the outside land-holders into the city,
(always good for PR - but then, the more people between us and the
bad-guys is always a good idea), create an interim government legally
(so the power we recieve automatically has a Royal basis! The regent
will in a sense become the new king of Clarehill!) to combat the
"invasion forces"
Then we blow up one of the local Magic guilds with magical weapons,
and let them attack the other Mage-guilds in retribution. Knowing Mages,
there'll be fireworks aplenty in Clarehill for a while to come.
Escalation will result and chaos will ensue. THEN, in steps BD - The
Saviour of Clarehill. He kills a whole bunch of people, rescues the
city, and becomes the Spiritual head (all the temples and churches
and religious power-brokers are by this time dead.) With our legal
white-market money, we rebuild the city, reinstitute the trading guilds as
one royal-corporation (controlled by one of us who is knowledgable in
such matters) and become the new aristocracy. Or we can sell the
whole of Clarehill to some other nearby kingdom, and take the money
and run . . . what do you think?"
