Jones had gone to the local Inn, which was at
best adequate; he rented room 12 for 3 months,
carefully paying in advance with a combination
of silver and copper coins...and complaining
just a bit about how expensive everything was.
After an uneventful evening, he went to his
job as a lower level civil servant...

Jones made a model civil servant in every way.
He started out by complimenting his boss on the
quality of his cloak, and remarking that it must
surely have been made by a master tailor; the
boss beamed! Of course, the truth was that it
was old, had gravy stains, and didn't fit just
right, since it had been purchased second hand
at a flea market...but the truth never had been
a problem for Jones!

Next, he made a point fo giving very friendly,
helpful, and patient advice to the people who
needed to gain permits, appointments, or to buy
or sell; unfortunately, the advice was always
subtly wrong! Perhaps it was the wrong form that
was suggested; or the wrong office to file it
in; or neglecting to mention an additional document
that had to be submitted with it...but, always, the
person was left with more trouble than he entered
with!

Finally, Jones cheerfully accepted the work his
boss and coworkers heaped on him! In a flurry
of activity, he sent files to other offices for
processing (always the wrong office...); other
files were inexplicably lost in the trash; those
in perfect order were taken apart, a critical portion
mislaid, and the entire application rejected; and,
those that weren't complete were approved and passed
along to be further processed!

Soon, both citizens and bureaucrats were grumbling,
angry, and frustrated...and as they talked, Jones
kept notes of who the malcontents, traitors and
revolutionaries were!

After the first week, there was no shortage of people
who needed to be watched....and that Friday,
Jones proudly collected his award for Employee of the Week!

Late that evening, a solitary figure dropped to the street...
he made sure he was unobserved and not followed.
Jones made his way to a small house on the outskirts of
town, where a fellow civil servant lived. This particular
person kept trying to make order out of the chaos Jones
had created; Jones smiled...this problem would soon be
removed. He watched silently from the shadows until the
house was dark and quiet...waited...then quietly broke
in. The dedicated public servant died without ever
waking up; Jones forced the wife to prepare a note that
denounced the King, then he rendered her unconscious.
She is delivered to BD as a midnight (literally) snack.
[Assuming BD wants a snack! If not, the wife will
be left, dead, on a back street]

In the predawn darkness, Jones returned to his room...
warily, he checked; he had not been observed! He
relaxed, and prepared for a most enjoyable weekend...
