He felt well enough to walk out after a day or two, but Blaze would have none of it. "Really, Blaze, I feel fine. I just want to take a short walk, get some fresh air and---" He swung his legs out of bed and managed to stand on wobbly legs. Through gritted teeth, he continued, "See. I am fine." Blaze smiled at her fiancee and said, "You can wait another day or two, beloved. It will not kill a knight to take some time off his feet for a while. I tried getting 'Raf to come down and check on you, but he seems to have left Generica for a while." She helped Lance back into bed, adding, "Please, Lance, get some more rest. I shall take care of you." Lance swallowed his knightly pride and allowed Blaze to do what she felt was right. Blaze did not really need 'Raf's word; through their physical touch, she could feel his soul getting stronger inside of him. She was a very happy woman now, and she could not wait to tell one and all about what was to come. It happened one early evening when the Dragon's Inn was not particularly busy. Serene was passing out drinks at a steady clip. Little- fair was maintaining things behind tha bar, cleaning a seeming endless pile of glasses and the such. The Short Ogre Cook was not all that busy: one costumer asked for a rare steak and potatoes. Lance and Blaze, arm-in-arm, walked downstairs. The patrons recognized the couple immediately. They had heard of the unfortunate incident and were glad that the knight was all better. A few of them sensed more of a closeness between the two and wondered what was going on. "Sir Lance. Blaze." said Serene upon seeing them. "Two Morduk's Whiskers?" Lance said, "If you will, m'lady." Serene poured the couple the drinks. While placing them in front of them, she commented, "My, don't you two look rather...er, friendly this evening. Might I ask what the smiles are about?" Blaze then showed the silver ring on her right hand. Serene looked upon it and said, "Oh, Blaze, it is beautiful! Did Sir Lance give this to you?" Blaze smiled and said, "Yes. Do you want to know why?" Serene looked up and said, "A happy occasion, I hope." Lance smiled, turned around and spoke to the entire Inn. "My fellow patrons, I have an announcement to make! M'lady Blaze and I are engaged to be wed!" The announcement caused the patrons to cheer in joy for them. Even the Short Ogre Cook could be heard grumbling his congratulations to them. Serene was shocked. "You ARE? But I...well, I thought you were already mates." Lance answered, "Only lovemates, Serene. We have yet to make it official. We are not lifemates, but we shall soon enough." Serene hugged Blaze and then Lance, saying, "Oh, that's so wonderful! When is the ceremony?" Blaze replied, "We have yet to set a defenite date, but it should be within the next couple of months." Littlefair then spoke up, saying, "Where do you intend on having the wedding? Or the reception, for that matter?" Lance said, "Well, we discussed it together, and we decided to have the reception here, in the Dragon's Inn. Would that be too much trouble for you and your staff?" "No, Sir Lance, not at all!" replied Littlefair. "As long as you can cover the expenses..." "That should pose no problem at all. Before we cleared Andrea's house of traps, we scored a big hit with an ogre near Specifica of Sugars. The bounty was..." He stopped mid-sentence, seeing the cook give him an angry look. "Worry not, sir," Lance said to the cook. "I am certain it was not any of your relations. The cook went back to preparing the steak. To Littlefair, he continued, "In any case, consider the reception paid for." "Very good, Sir Lance." replied Littlefair. Blaze then grasped Serene's hands and said, "Serene, my first true friend here in Generica, I would be most happy if you could be my maid of honor." Serene gasped in shock. But she didn't hesitate to answer, "Oh, Blaze, I'd be delighted to!" She hugged the archmage again. A tear could be seen coming down her cheek. Lance looked at Littlefair and said, "Rowan, I wish that you could take the place of Blaze's father and give the bride away at the wedding." Littlefair said, "No problem, Sir Lance. You two have meant quite a bit to a number of people in this city. So, where is the wedding going to be?" Blaze replied, "We have considered holding the wedding in the Generican Gardens, near the white rose orchard." "That seems decent enough," said Littlefair. "I'm sure Vitor would be happy to allow you to set things up there...as long as the crowd is at a marginal size." Serene then said, "If there's anything I can do to help you plan for the wedding, anything at all, let me know." "Thank you, my friend," said Blaze. Lance then unrolled a parchment which he had in his hand and posted it on the bulletin board. It read: Let it be known that SIR LANCE and LADY BLAZE intend to be wed in two months' time (around 5-30-95) at GENERICAN GARDENS The wedding and reception at the DRAGON'S INN are open to the public with free food and drink. The bachelor and bachelorette parties are by invite only.
