Meanwhile, down in the bar area of the inn, Azurecon was smiling to
himself. He enjoyed toying with his intended victim, it was fun
watching them squirm and wonder when the end would come for him or
her. This Cernborn was to be an easy kill, and he might even decide
to kill his friends as a bonus to himself. This Cernborn person was
far too arrogant to deserve to continue to live. People always felt
too safe when they got to be as experienced as Cernborn and Azurecon
liked putting the fear of the gods into people like that.

But what method of torture to use on him next? It was always too easy
for him to kill some unsuspecting fool. Like the night when he killed
three people in one night, in the same tavern, in less than an hour,
with almost no thought or effort, and with no one watching him.
Azurecon closed his eyes, remembering the night.

He had seen her standing there the roulette wheel watching the ball
spin round and round. She never saw him as he came up behind her and
put a firm hand on her shoulder. She never felt the sting and didn't
realize that she had been poisoned. Then he walked away. She was
dead less than five minutes later, just as he was being seated for
dinner.

Then half an hour later came the second kill. He had excused himself
to go to the washroom and take care of business. He could hear that
annoying bard down on the stage, a human trying to sing an Elven song
of love and happiness. How rude! he had thought to himself. After
tending to the call of Nature he had quietly slipped up into the
rafters in the ceiling, loaded his crossbow and took careful aim. If
he missed he would never get a second shot. He pulled the trigger of
his weapon, letting the arrow fly. The poor bastard never saw it
coming as his quarrel drove home. The arrow imbedded itself in the
guy's open mouth, right in the middle of a verse. Of course the
entire crowd was shocked by the sight.

Afterwards Azurecon just went back and finished his dinner. Then
after he finished his meal he took a tour of the downstairs, and he
saw her, a healer. She was attractive but unfortunate. Quick as
lightning and silent as a panther he crept up behind her and
bludgeoned her with his weapon, crushing her skull in. Then he went
to the bar for a drink before leaving.

That was almost a year ago and the events were still fresh in his
mind. Now he was after different quarry, this time for money. He was
to do this job alone and for a hefty sum he had agreed to take this
man out. What a joke, the man was not dangerous, and wasn't even
worth the sixty thousand pieces of gold that he had promised for the
job. With that Azurecon drank down the rest of his ale and walked off
into the night, preparing for the next encounter with Mister Cernborn.
