"Well, I don't personally know anybody in need of that sort of
employment just now," Rowan replied while drawing the ale.
"I'll have to check around, of course, but all the adventurers
seem to be occupied just now. However, a few months back,
someone put a notice up on our bulletin board - just there, see
it? beside the door - advertising for a mercenary service. You
might want to check with them; I haven't heard much about them,
but it seems they're pretty good. Here's your drink; that'll be
two coppers."

"Thanks; I'll do that," Aegeneas replied. She sipped her ale and
took another look around the inn; aside from the Dark Corners and
attendant Dark Figures, the clientele today seemed to be
primarily of ordinary people just looking for a meal. Wandering
over to the board Littlefair had pointed out, she quickly located
the notice he had mentioned. Aegeneas finished her ale and left.

The address given was in one of the richer, quieter neighborhoods
of Generica, some distance north from the bustle surrounding the
Ceruputhon. The building itself was a low, sprawling structure,
most of which was hidden behind a thick hedge. Aegeneas walked
up to the double wooden doors and knocked. She was soon rewarded
when one of them swung silently open, revealing a middle-aged man
who looked out on the street and said, "Can I help you?"

"Yes; my name is Aegeneas, and I'm looking to hire some fighters.
I saw a notice in the Dragon's Inn directing me here, to speak to
Issto Kejachan."

"Of course. Follow me, please."

He stepped back from the door, letting her into a cool, dimly lit
hallway. Having once more bolted the door, he led her through a
veritable maze of side passages and small chambers, finally
leaving her in a clean, well-lighted room. Two broad windows
showed a well-tended garden just outside. A desk sat in the
middle of the room, and a dark-haired fat man sat at the desk,
writing furiously.

"Yes, Polter, what is it?" he said without looking up.

"A customer, sir."

His head came up at that. "Ah, of course, my dear lady! Have a
seat, please, be welcome." He gestured toward a chair while
cleaning up his previous work. "Now, what sort of job do you
have in mind?"
